So this is something that is not unusual? I just couldn't comprehend how a piece of plastic could wear a hole in the aluminum exhaust pipe.

So, out of nine bikes, 4 has experienced this. I only got back into riding about eight years when I purchased an 02 gasser 200. I've never seen a pipe do this. So, my next question is, have any of you experienced this on any other bike/silencer?

You are correct Phil, there are spacers there. The one up by the seat is about twice the size of the other one. I may get rid of them actually and just use the rubber bushing.
