is there any difference between the output of the two, as far as the CDI is concerned? I have the hidria in my ec300, but i have a kokusan on a spare motor that I got. I am just curious in case I swap the motor for some reason.

Had similar symptoms on a CR500 once, it ended up being the stator had a short in the windings. It had enough juice to make a spark, but wouldn't run, or when it did run, it ran like crap. Sent the stator out and had it rewound, fixed the problem.
