Now that's a seriously mangled sprag. What model is your bike. That is an unusual sprag to have in there. I wonder if someone used that sprag as a replacement for the original one?

That means yours is ok. They are not supposed to slip when you hit the starter. I think some of the parts that were designed for the drz400 engine have trouble coping with the 450 and 515 motors.

What info does the technoresearch software give you about the sensors. If the temp sensor is faulty it could be too lean on cold startup. Does it start easier when it's hot? Try starting it with the temp sensor disconnected and see if it makes any difference.
