    Cooked Motor--Need Advice

Assessment Well, I just heard from the mechanic who tore down the motor and things aren't as bad as they could've been....In fact--I'm pretty impressed with how tough this little bugger is. The bottom end is fine. No damage to rod, crank or transmission. The top end needs to be replaced...

I must say I was rather impressed with the little motor that could and did not leave us stranded in the dez. Definitely time to give her a little love.

    Cooked Motor--Need Advice

I will probably take it to a local mechanic for an inspection. Until then, I'm just trying to think this through. Why would the head bolts come loose? I can understand that the leakage around the head is from damaged head gaskets and/or head warpage but why would the head bolts come loose?

    Cooked Motor--Need Advice

I just got back from a 10 day trip to Moab, UT with my 16 yo son. We had an incredible time and made great memories, but the story did not end well for the bike. On our last day of riding, my son was riding a 2011 EC300 and unknowingly punctured the radiator. Unknown to him, all coolant was...

    Powervalve issue?

Arm Binding Check the clearance of the pushrod to the opening from PV chamber down to cylinder. Mine (and others were) binding here preventing the arm making full contact to the stopper. I had to remove my PV actuator rod and bend a "jog" in it to prevent it binding . Works great now.

    Been thinking- fork swap

Offset Increase in triple clamp offset moves forks (which are parallel to the steering axis) away from the steering axis at both top and bottom clamps evenly so that the long axis of the forks are still parallel to the steering axis. All of my other conclusions are based on this assumption...

And you found that GG axle offset is 3mm greater than Honda, correct? If that is the case, I will use my 24mm Tclamps for the Honda and "recover" 2 off the 3mm decrease in offset leaving 1mm decrease. That 1mm decease in offset will be like changing the Gg stock offset from 22 to 21 which...

Brent, Where did you get the Honda rake and trail data? How did you measure axle offset (center of fork leg) to center of axle? Is there any kind of center marking on the fork leg or did you eyeball it? Thanks

Offset Okay....I had some wrong information.... The offset I have available to me on the RG3's is 20mm. I could also use the stock Honda clamps (Preferred cuz they work GREAT with my Scott's submount). I want to make sure I understand your measurement of axel to fork offset because it will...

You are right....just bearings but lets me swap the COMPLETE front ends of my 2 bikes without messing around with brakes etc. Maybe my last post was a little dramatic but I was getting overwhelmed with the prospect of boring and shimming for two bikes. This lets me switch 2 ENTIRE front ends...

Another thought.... GMP...Good point about steering offset. Stock Honda clamps are 24mm. GG is 22. I have a set of RG3 clamps for the CRF that are a custom 22mm offset. So....Now I'm thinking about using the RG3 clamps with the 37mm Honda Showa's. That would mean all i need is a steering...

I'm eager to see what you learn about the GG in Honda T-clamps angle as I have a spare set of Honda T-Clamps available. That could be really slick too but will depend on availability of compatible bearings etc. Maybe a custom stem could also be turned by a machinist.....

Brent, I was suprised to hear you found the 47mm Showa's LOOSE in the triple clamps after looking over the diameter data posted towards the start of this thread. I got out my digital caliper and indeed measured the Zokes at 54.79mm at the top clamp and the Showa's at 53.46. Do you think 1.3mm...
