03 EC hubs

So ive been reading through alot of threads. From what i can gather, if i want to turn my rear 19" rim into an 18", i CANT just take my stock AJP rear hub and get any 18" rim from EXCEL, Talon, DiD, etc and some spokes for it and make it work? The angles are specific for hub, spoke bend, and rim.

Crap! So what changed from 03 to 04 because i see more parts available for rear wheel/hub/rim that are from 04 and up.

As far as I know all GG rims/hubs are that way. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will come along here and confirm or correct me if I'm wrong.

I have done it before, years ago. You will just need the correct rim and spokes. Gasgas used a odd ball lacing pattern, I think it was 36 hole with LH lacing. Most others used RH lacing. Or vice versa. It was the same as old Italian husky rims I am pretty sure.

19" wheel

Either your bike was a MC version and not a EC or someone swapped the stock EC 18" for a 19". You are probably better off just buying a 18" rear wheel as they were the most common.

Excel site shows it was Husky from 2010-14 or somewhere around those years. Might just have to wait and find something on ebay in a few months. I have NO CLUE how to go about looking for the correct rim AND spokes to lace it up myself.

Think it is a DE. No headlight, Ohlins front/rear, 19" rear, wiring into the ignition side is at 10 o'clock position if that means anything.

I bought used stock hubs for my EC250SM conversion.
Bucannon's had no problem setting mine up with 17"
rims and spokes. Both front and rear.

We have a DE300 and a SE300 from 2003/2004 both with Ohlins forks/shock and 2k2 10 oclock smaller ignitions and they both had lights and 18" rear wheels. We have a 2002 MC125 that came with the 19" rear wheel.

Bike is definitely an EC. Vin on frame/motor say so and match. 6 speed tranny, Excel Takasago matching rims with Blue writing on them. Front has # plate, not headlight plate. I only have like 7-8 or so wires on the bike and only one not plugged in to anything is yellow. I'm just assuming it's a DE because of all of those things. But the seat pan has the spot for a battery. Very confusing.

My EC250SM is a 1998.
I think it started life as an MC250 with the 50mm
Marzocchi Magnum forks. Steve Marolda from MotoWest
modified it for street legal use with wiring harness and 6 speed.
It came to me with a 19" rear, and I believe it is an AJP hub.
Would have to dig into the garage or shed to confirm.

As far as I know the lacing pattern and holes in the rim were
nothing special. Buchannon's had no issue when I delivered the
hub and Excel Tagasago rim I bought from Sprocket Center.
They supplied the spokes and laced them up for me.
Maybe I got lucky?

I also have a 2002 EC300. The rims are different shape, but, I think
the rears would swap over if I tried. The front has a larger axle
diameter and will not swap between them.

Good luck, Jeff
