06 EC200 Set up for short rider

Hi I have just got a 06 EC200 and looking to lower it. My old KTM I cut the seat up and that was 'just' about right.

The GasGas has a linkage and there seems to be some lowering kits around. My question is.. Should I mess with the geometry if I can get away with cutting the seat down.. ? Are there any issues with using lowering kits ?

I'l be using the bike for Enduro H&Hounds.

Thanks

I have trimmed the seats on a couple bikes and that should not impact handling. To get them shorter, I used the 124mm (longer) linkage bars, which lowers the rear of the bike about an inch. Depending on your handlebar standoffs, you can also drop the forks in the triple clamp a bit to drop the front end.

Guessing you're in the UK ? I have some second hand 125mm (centre to centre) lowering links I can sell. Never needed to lower a bike for myself, but would expect having a suspension tuner shorten forks and shock would be more succesful because just lowering the back end would mess up the fork angle.

I agree, when you drop the rear you should also lower the front a corresponding amount to keep the bike level. That is why I mentioned the handlebar height to allow for room to move the forks in the triple clamps.

Thanks allot, yes I'm in the UK I would be interested in the lowering links.

I will cut the seat first and see how it is.

You can also get a cobbler to add a 2nd sole to your boots.

I'm 5'8 & not long legs, I just have the forks dropped as much as poss & at the lower end of the preload on the rear & I'm fine. I made the mistake on my last bike of cutting the foam down too much. Was ok till I got used to the bike then it was too low so made standing up harder.
