07 and up 200 or 250 engine

I am assuming you're going to slip a motor into your '08 frame?

Based on some of your remarks regarding coming from the KDX, I would recommend a 200.

My EC250 was quite a bit more of a handful than my current 300. The 250 just has more hit and is a quicker reving motor. It is fun, but IMO not as easy to ride in the woods as my 300.

I just picked up a EC200 today and got to take it out for a quick spin. It seems like all that a KDX should have become. Great little motor with nice delivery and easy to ride.

What about trading your whole bike for a whole 200?

You have to ride the 250 both on and off the pipe, but its very tunable and not violent at all like a YZ. Its softer than the 300 so in miles of tight stuff thats a good thing. The 300s force you to spend too much time trying to avoid getting on the pipe. Unless you blew your 300 motor, I suspect you realize this. There all good, just different.

I like the snap of the 300. If i had the cash I'd make it a 315 or so.

I like to lug a bike, KDXREME likes to ring the piss out of them.

I picked up a '99 EC200 from up in Seattle. It's for my son, but I have a feeling I will be spending a significant amount of time on it.

Just my .02 coming off of years of KDX riding and 2 years on KTM200's.

Everyone has different style of riding and any of the Gasgas bikes (200,250,300) can be very effective. If you are riding singletrack in the Northwest, it rarely is a matter of power, but rather power delivery.

The 300 ridden a gear high is most 4-stroke like and there is never a need to ride on the pipe, especially in the tight woods of the NW. It makes smooth tractorable power and puts it to the ground very effectively. I have a throttle cam on mine, so I never feel like I am holding it back or afraid of twisting too far.

The 250 is just a quicker throttle response and there is more snap there. I found it to be tiring in the tight woods. It can be lugged as well and does a great job riding it a gear high, but not as well as a 300.

I have not had time to take out the 200 for any extensive time yet, but from my KDX and KTM200 days, I can say that a 200 is just about perfect in the woods. You can be on the throttle and pipe more without consequences and it will lug if asked to with not too much clutch work. They are more "fun" IMO, and can be ridden aggresively.

Like I mentioned, to each his own. I really dont think I am any faster on any of the bikes, but I think I have the most fun on a 200 and have the easiest time on the 300. Now owning both, I get to pick and choose.:D

For the kind of gnarly local riding I do, and the stuff I see in Paul's videos, no doubt the 300 is the bike of choice. My issue is racing one. Wasted energy managing extra power. I used to ride KTM300s and I know I'm faster on 250s. Thats why I have been a 250 fan as it does all well. Now that I'm getting a second GG, I have options. What to do? A '12 300 for most of my riding which is just nasty trail? A '12 200 for primarily racing? A new 250 for whatever and maybe convert the '07 into a 300 rock crawler. That and I have an option to pick up a 125 in good shape for a few hundred $$, for my son like you did. I already have a spare cyl for a 144 project.

200 will be the next one I was going to sell mine but now i will probally ride it another year since the motor will be new from top to bottom. Lucky the trans was good but the rest is getting a rebuild.
