1997 EC250 Spark Arrestor Muffler

I have recently purchased a 1997 EC250, has a Pro Circuit spark arrestor muffler, I repacked it. Just rode a 90 mile loop in So Cal desert and have a lot of oil around the seams of the muffler. Using Maxium Synthetic oil 50/1, any ideas why so much oil on the muffler? Also, I am looking for a red rear fender, for it.
