I'm looking at buying the Pirelli Scorpion Pro front and Pirelli MT43 trials rear. I'm also going to get the Moose HD tubes. Two 2.15" rim locks for the rear and 1.6" for the front. For rim locks I hear Talon but what else is out there? Any other recommendations?

And thanks goes to Skidad for getting me this far!

We all run Dunlop trials rear. My buddy, that owns a shop, decided to order a Pirelli to try. He never put it on. The compound seems harder and it's kinda square at the outside edge. It's sitting in his shop for sale. He'd probably give you a great deal on it. Let me know if you want me to ask him. I'd recommend sticking with the Dunlop or Mitas though.

Motion pro would be a cheaper route for the rim locks.

I have new 2.15 and 1.6 motion pro rims locks but, I ordered the Talon aluminum rim locks instead of using the MP's.

$17 a piece, not cheap at all. I hope they work:D

I ran a pirelli mt 83 which was the original scorpian pro on my drz 400. I htought it was a good all around tire for ne. they cahnge a whole line of tire over to the scorpian pro name thos so I don't know if it was the same tire. I don't know if I would swett the compound on a trials tire going on a dirt bike. I just mounted up an irc trial tire because that is what i had. Its stiff than the used michelin I put back on my trials bike. The irc worked totally kick azz in a snotty harescramble I did this weekend. Side profile might be worth thinking about tho. If you can get it cheap enough ... run it!!

I wouldn't run a HD tube in a trials tyre on an enduro bike. Well I did twice! :o

In order for the trials tyre to work it needs to be at low pressure, especially in slick conditions. At that sort of pressure a HD tube has very little pushing it against the tyre and wheel, especially a high volume trials tyre, you'll also introduce some slimy mud at those low pressures and wet conditions. Next when you are going fast and hit the anchors for tight turn in these slick conditions your back wheel has a good chance of locking. Your HD tube, which is quite heavy, isn't going to want to stop rotating immediately with so little pressure. It stretches & pulls the valve, which is pretty much all that's anchoring the tube, until eventually it tears out. End of race.

This happened to me twice. I was running about 6 psi in wet mud. Both times I checked the tyre and it hadn't moved relative to the wheel or clamps. Never happened with normal tubes. I think the weight of the HD tube was too much for the valve to hold.

Do you mean the UHD tubes? I know many swear by these things but I read enough info to convince me not to use them. Any jeez they are stinking heavy. I'm using the Moose HD tubes which which are a darn nice tube and plenty heavy duty IMO. I'm still getting a little slippage with my Mitas tire and 2 rim locks with the low pressures needed but I don't yet have the spiffy Talon locks. Also my rear rim is in bad shape so that may be a contributing factor.

Also just an FYI the Pirelli MT43 has been getting very favorable reviews. It's similar to the Mitas with a somewhat stiffer sidewall and is supposed to have a bead that sits over the rim edge when mounted protecting the rim. It also looks totally different from the cardboard shipping insert it comes with to being mounted on a bike. The shipping insert makes it look really big and squared off. Not so mounted up.
