i just bought a 2000 ec250 and rode it around for about 30 minutes the other day and it is way cool. this bike seems to have a "flutter" type noise that sounds like it is coming from the pv area that is more prominent than my 300.
It had been parked for a year before i bought it and I rode it that day and did not notice it. It is only at idle, once you pick up the throttle it is gone.
any thoughts???

Is it only when moving, or do you hear it with the bike running but not moving?

Gassers are known for chain slap when you lug them.

bike running, not moving. i hear the chain slap alot as i am a lugger, i know that sound well.. it is coming from the front area of the motor, and as soon as you get it off idle, it quits, or you can't hear it anymore.

thanks... if this was a car, it would be like an exhaust leak, so i think you may be on to something

when you let of the throttle does it do it too? like a vibrating sound? try putting you foot on your exhaust at idle and see if it goes away could be something simple like a vibrating washer or exhaust springs vibrating.

i noticed it more throttling up than down, but i will check that. I only got to ride it about 30 minutes. I am going to change all fluids and general check over this weekend.
thanks guys.

+1

When I picked up my three GG 250s last spring, (long story) they were pretty neglected. I noticed a sound like what you describe on the '03. One of the radiator guards was bent and rattling against the radiator. Only happened at a certain RPM when revving or accelerating.

pulled the bike down and changed all the fluids this weekend. did not really see anything out of the ordinary. pv seems to be ok. pipe mounts and spigot gaskets are ok. I put an ltr impeller on it and rode it a little.
It is a different sounding bike than my 300, but the 300 is completely stock.
this 250 has had some serious engine work done to it by the first owner and a guy i know. I will pin them down this week and find out what, but the bike runs great.
thanks for the input .
