2012 XC250/300 fuel tap

I understand the US 2012 XC250/300 has the fuel tap in an east west direction with the outlet on the LHS and the on/off lever on the barrel side (I have seen a photo of one). For those of you that have this model, how close is the lever to the barrel and have you had any issues with the plastic lever melting? The reason I ask is that I have an Australian model EC300 where the fuel tap runs in an east west direction with the outlet on the RHS and the on/off lever at the rear. It is a pain to get to the fuel line and I was thinking of reversing it. The only problem is the plastic on/off lever hits the barrel during part of its travel so I'd have to shave some plastic off so it doesn't touch. I'm not sure whether the lever will still be too close and therefore prone to melting. If the XC lever is close (say 5mm or 1/4 inch for you guys) I may be OK. Thanks

Cheers Senior Rooster,Sorry to relay its the tank mold that changed position.
The Fuel tap is the same. I have both year tanks '12&'13's. At least this is the way they were supplied here in the States.
