Very Impressed about the gasgas internal parts. Very nice quality. Bulletproof!

I went across the top end due to a leaky base jug gasket. After the measuremet of the cylinder I ordered a woosener piston kit.

I have 1 question:

My mecanic want to hone my cylinder. It looks perfect, no scratches, no lines ect...I used a scotchbrite to deglaze like I use to do on my KDX. I think honing my cylinder is not necessary but I'm no expert. What do you think? Thanks for your help

I am amazed also with the longevity of Gas Gas. My 97 EC250 has close to the same hours yours did and I can still see the cross hatching marks in the jug. My KX250 went thru 2 top ends in that time.

Heck, you might just have it honed for good measure while you have it apart. You just as very well might get another 400+ out of it!

400 hrs ...
hone it ...
I had my jug honed everytime I did a top end on my husky 144
as explained to me it just cleans things up

Deglaze with Scotch-Brite should be fine.
If you want to hone it, make sure it's carefull and doesn't catch any of the edges of the plating at the ports. Not really worth the risk, imho.

400 hours?!!!!!
holy crap, thats HEAPS.....
i change pistons in the 300 every 70hours or so, the 250 i have im expecting to be worse....
400hrs sounds like heaps to much.
i take it that the first piston since new?
from the photos, everything looks fine, even the piston, dont you rev it or somthing?
isnt honeing going to remove some of the nickchrome stuff in the bore?
scotch brite and backtogether i'd say......, drop a piston in though.

I'm a tight stuff rider, most of the time on the torque riding style, but on the pipe too! I race too, 5-6 times a year. Ride twice a week. I'm a rear trial tire addict, not a airfilter freak but it is always clean. Motul 510/710 user. In my case 70hours on a topend is odd.

Yes my 'o3 was still on the original top end. Went thru it because a leaky base gasket... Due to the OK overall condition of the thing I decided to scotchbrite it and install a wossener piston kit.

Cheers! And Thanks for advices!

Bob Piper make sweet kits. Thanks BOB
