I went down that road buying individual bearings from a bearing shop thinking it would be cheaper, but even with the "cheaper" Chinese bearings it still was more expensive than if I'd just ordered the "kit" from GoFasters. They are very reasonably priced.
Sorry I can't help with what bearings were used on bikes with conventional forks.
The seal on the newer bikes is a 30x42x7. The seal on the older bikes will have a different ID(inside diameter) because the axel is a smaller diameter. The first # is the ID and you can measure your axel to get that. (?)x42x7 These measurements are in millimeters. - Ken
