This happened July 2024. Normal training at my home track. I was cruising in a descent training pace behind a friend. My front wheel hit a root and I lost traction. I was running about 20 km/h. I fell to the right. This is a small crash you all do at least 5-10 times/year. Normally you have enough time to save the fall by reaching out with your leg and then get back into pace again. I didnt this time and hit the ground. A diameter 90-100mm stump hit me on my right side, right between the back plate and chest plate. It sounded like if you break a package of spagetti. 11 ribbs broken + a punktured lung. Worst was that 5 of 6 ribbs was broken both sides (back and front). Simply explained, the ribb cage was loose. I tried to get up on my feet and also did so. I realized after one second that this was not a normal fracture. It felt like I was going to die so after some struggle I was laying on my back hyperventilating. About ten minutes later another friend came to pass and found me. Long story short, emergency team with ambulance, and who ever follows with them. I passed out after they got me into the ambulance full of medics. 13 days in hospital full of morfine. Day 8-10 was the worst ever in my life. The pain in the ribbs was so extreme my will to live was at zero. I asked them to put me out with an overdose.
At home day 13 I was down to 40mg morfine/day. After that 5mg less every week until I was free from it. After 3-4 weeks at home I started to use my right arm for teeth brushing and similar easy things. In front of the mirror I saw my color bone sticking up. Not broken but not where it should be. I sent a photo to my doctor and got the answer ”OH a level 5 AC joint separation. So it was and I was into surgery 25/3 2025. Luckely no muscles was hurt wich is very common in this case. Today it works but I still struggle. I can use my arm but are week. All movement are back but the shoulder pops and sounds crazy in different angles. The titanium plates that are there instead of my ligaments (I have non left) are fixed but not where they are supposed to because of a minor slipping accident 9 days after the surgury. Im still positive and hope to be back on the bike May -26. That will be the day I know if I are done with enduro or not. Im 57 and everyone I know tell me to stop competing but you folks know thats not an option. I really dont know what to do with my spare time if I end this? Next thing is maybe to aim for being a high end alcoholic. Compared with eachother I prefer the bike
