Anybody got a line on beefy radiators?

Two ride days, two pretzled rads ... I like the guys at Myler's and all, but I'm looking for a source for some stronger radiators ... and yes I realize I could run guards and braces instead ;)

The pre '07 rads were a bit stronger but still no match for a fall on a rock or log. Almost everyone uses some kind of bracing or guard in the woods, I don't see why you wouldn't.

Speaking of radiator guards, I have a set of Bullet Proof Designs on my 300. Will try to post some pictures a bit later.

Steve,
I have agreed to send Bulletproof a bike when they get in next week so they can do some refinement to the mounting system. Bulletproof will warranty your rad guards if you are able to bend or break them.

Good to hear BPD will make rad gaurds for the Gasgas, one more reason to get a new 300.

I'll be spending a little time in the metal shop myself I think ... but you've gotta love the guys and gals at Myler's. My twisted up 250 rad was in and out in less than a day, and when we were discussing the fees we got on the topic of replacement radiators and the science of fixing twisted ones.

Next thing you know the chief radiator fixer/welder/doctor was on the phone, and he confirmed that GasGas rads are in fact made out of warm butter. He did say that that's better than being made out of cold butter like the older KTM rads - they would start leaking from vibration without even taking a hit. Apparently the Japanese radiators oscillate between warm butter and cold butter without rhyme or reason, depending on the year.

With that happy news, guard up friends:D

I have found that the home made aluminum post that replaces the lower rad bolt works fine. I did the mod right away when I bought the 05 and the rads are still straight as an arrow. And if you want more protection you can install an upper on as well and replace the push tab on the shroud with a bolt hole. I'm not sure if this mod still works with the new plastic or not.

Just how old are we talking about on the KTM??? My 97 is still on the original rads and have never had braces of any kind. Life has not been easy for them either living in rocky New England.

Check with Go Fasters and see if they have any Meca braces for your bike. Great stuff.

I have managed to twist one coolng tower on my 99 EC200.When I replaced it with direct KTM repacement....I take it GasGas no longer used KTM coolers?

Will Mylers weld all the seams?

Sorry for the delay on getting the photo up.

As Clay said in an earlier post, Nate at BPD will be doing some "tweaking" to make these guards a little easier to install for the 2010 / 2011 models.

Actually, the only real problem is getting to the bottom radiator mounting bolt, since the lower shroud nut insert doesn't allow you access as the older model instructions state. I had to run a 1/4 inch wratchet with a swivel drive extension up thru the bottom of the guard in order to get bolt installed.

Give the guys at BPD some time to fix the glitch, then place your orders!!!

The GP struts work well for the bottom mounts.
Here's the prototypes BPD did for me a while back. The 50mm triple clamps had some clearance issues.

The older rads may have been a direct replacement, but the newer ones have the fittings for the expansion tank (which I'm sure the KTM guys would surely love).

My guess is that Myler's will weld whatever you ask them to, but I'll have to see what my rad looks like when it gets back this week.
