Back to work!

Well its been a long summer,, and now being out 6+ months going back to work is a happy change.. Hopefully soon things will be looking up enough to pick up a new bike.. as I sold the 03 after the incident.. The Dr. gave me the ok to ride on the street,, said to make it short trips till My back gets used to the action of riding again. Been in PT for 6 months and feel good strength wise but I still have a good amount of pain in the lower back. They said that will take a while to go away, but no screwed up discs.. I'm thinking about borrowing a street bike for a while to try out.. But what to buy?? I'd like a plate on whatever I get so I can use it to ride to the trail instead of trailering it everywhere.. but that will be another thread in another part of this forum..

Steve - Good to hear. I broke my back (compression fracture of the T10, 11, 12 and L1 vertebrae) in Feb. of '94. Had to wear a brace for 9 months. Couldn't do any impact exercising for another 6 months after that. Finally got back on the bike until June of '95.

Unfortunately after an hour or so of riding my back would be in pain. I went to two orthos and two chiros and their only solution was I shouldn't ride. Then one day I had a spectacular crash and, while I rag-dolling in the dirt, felt something go pop in my back. Immediately the pain went away and never returned.

back injuries suck, i only 7 weeks ago crashed into a tree. Hit it with the top of my head, with a straight back. Compression fractures on T3, T4 and T5. I was lucky tho just seen the specialest and he said should be good for riding by the start of next year.

Well,, Where to start,, I was told in Dec that I could ride,, yup in Dec.. snow on the ground.. The kicker,, no dirt bike,, told to street for now.. maybe this summer try mild dirt roads trails.. that kind of stuff.. I havent rode street since I was 19 or so,, so this spring I was looking at 4strokers,, unsure of what I wanted or could ride I went with a bike I always wanted,, lc4,, got me a nice condition 03 sxc 625 for a really good $$.. Took her out on several short solo street rides.. Then yesterday I went for a ride with my buddy Dave "digger" "Slab" and many other nicknames as he is our local riding mortician.. We are checking on the dirt route of the upcoming "Jim Thorpe Smoking Hole Rally" a ds event with 2 groups, big bikes and dirt bikes(real street legal dirt bikes).. I ended up doing 37 miles of enduro trail on a big 625.. dropped her only once.. or twice if you count when I couldnt find a place to put my foot down when stopped..
Now, I'm sore, back is sore and the one get off is from the bike stalling on a steep downhill,, I rolled off right onto a rock with my hip,, so I'm walking funny.. We will see how monday goes.. If I can do this for a couple months I'm thinking a newer GG 250 should find its way here.. I need to sell some things first tho.. and fix some things on the house..
So the rehab bike is working.. and it really seams to like riding on one wheel more than two??

Hey that's great. Sounds like things are going good but it's always those few days after that can tell the tale. Glad you're enjoying the SXC, I do miss mine and they are quite capable trail bikes even at 300lbs +. If Glen decides to sell his 250 you should be all over that as I'm sure you won't find a better setup/maintained bike. Now get to work on the house and sell some stuff:D

Great to read about a positive rehab experience. Good luck, and I hope you end up on a real dirt bike soon.

ps
that 450f in my sig has some real one wheel issues as well :D

Hey Steve great to hear your riding again!

Did you replace that JK with a new one? 2 door 4 door ? any mods yet?

Hope ya did, they are fun rigs.

Roscoe

Glad to hear you're on 2 wheels again Steve. Going without for a bit helps you realize how much you really love it, eh ?
I went 4 years when I couldn't afford it. I vowed never again after my 1st ride back. Hopefully, with my wife short on clients/work, I can keep that vow. :o

Well,, I'm glad to say the pain went away in just a couple days.. but the damage,, the bike developed surging issues which has me rebuilding this damned BST carb.. I'm really thinking about going to a real carb,, dumping this diaphram crap and going fcr.. will be test riding in about an hrs.. and I managed to break two rear spokes in the rocks.. Got the new ones on without even pulling the wheel off..
As for the Jeep,, picked up an 08 2dr,, and 6 weeks ago I put on a nice big rock bumper complete with grill guard.. good thing too.. the next weekend I had a head on with a deer.. 60mph and plowed into a large doe I think,, wasnt much more than a pile of meat when I was done.. but thanks to the bumper,, only minor damage to the jeep and we barely felt the impact inside.. The deer,, it flew 50+ feet into a blob.. looked like a semi truck kill.. I couldnt even save the tenderlions,,
I have a set of 33's for the jeep.. they will go on soon.. I hope,, its riding season,, priorities,, oh,, and now the wife wants to camp,, so I'm going this week to look at a pop-up..
It never ends.. I'll try to post up some pics soon..

Well,, had my visit with the Dr last week,, and told Him straight out what I've been up to on my "street bike".. He said its probably time to get back to the regular bike "so I dont hurt myself trying to fit the big bike where it doesnt belong",, so I'm putting the 97 back together until I can afford a new ride.. I might even get to ride it next saturday if all goes well..

Glad to hear you are getting back out there and thet you have been healing up.

Just to update this old thread,, I've sold my "street bike" the 625sxc,, back in september actually and at the time couldn't find a suitable GG 4 stroke ended up with a KTM 450exc that was at a friends shop all blinged out.. It took a while to come to terms with this bike. The bike was set up strange.. a rekluse pro-z setup for mx/supercross.. so no engine braking whatsoever.. Now I got that fixed just need to work on a stator issue and should be ok.. The GG was out for a few miles and blew a head gasket.. the heads off getting some work done.. hope to have that back on the trail soon.. I still have back and hand issues and some odd balance issues the Dr's are blaming on the head injury.. but this weekend was the JIm Thorpe Smoking Hole Rally.. a DS event I help my buddy with He hosts it every year with his brother.. put on like 40 miles saturday till my hands gave up then sunday I had to take a small group out and lead.. It was a rainy foggy damp cool day.. and I had a great day.. it all clicked and while not at 100% speed a few of the trails I was blasting down with a good size lead.. I have not lead any trails since the wreck.. I just have to say I cant wait to get my 2 stroker back!!
Oh,, another 35-40 miles on sunday with two of the nastiest hills we have thrown in.. starting to feel myself.. a couple more rides like this and I may start to travel to ride again....

If I can swing it cash wise,, the wife took a job that is 40% of her old pay and with the new manager at mine he has not ok'ed me to have my company truck 24/7 again. Driving a 600 mile a week commute on toll roads is killing me money wise. I'm spending $150 plus a week just to go to work right now. Once back in my co. truck and if I ever get my review/promotion I certified for back in august I'll have the cash to go to the races again. I'm hoping for a new manager.

I'll drive if I can fit three bikes and gear on the camper. Then again. I heard that there wee 300 entries so far and most of that was non-ECEA, so I think the normal nice campground situation will be a zoo. Usually I leave on Sat around noon, get there around 5PM, and get one of the last spots on the top of the hill. This year may call for a backup plan.

Go to Hancock with us this year on 8/6,7 then. That bike will be perfect for those huge hills.

Hancock falls the same weekend as Lobsterfest.. and HMDR's hs.. I will have a housefull of guests for the lobsterfest event so its hard to get out.. may take you up on the national tho..
