Battery Wiring

Maybe I remove my seat too much... I don't know, I clean my airfilter pretty much every ride so I don't think I really have much of a choice. Anyway... I'm sure I'm not the only one to have to re-wire their battery because of broken cables and terminals??

Soo... I finally just ordered some 10awg RC car silicone wire and EC5 RC car battery plugs. I'm downsizing wire size and I'm a little skeptical on the small plug not melting, but, it is rated to 120 amps. In theory it should be fine. The silicone wire is extremely flexible. I'll report back when I get the stuff and let everyone know how it worked out.

In the meantime, anyone else have to deal with this? What did you do?

I'm a little puzzled at this. On your bike...Isn't there a cable attached to the battery box that goes to the sub frame cross member, that stabilizes the seat and keeps the battery terminals from being stressed?

There used to be. It frayed and broke and I never replaced it. I actually had a cable break at the terminal before that though from repeated flexing. It's not a big deal. I was just curious if anyone else has had a problem and curious about the solutions people came up with. I'm sure the flexy cables will work great.

It's dusty here in Utah so it seams like I'm constantly in the air box.

This is what I used, works like a champ. Got it from Napa

Roll your own

I can tell my wires/terminal are getting a bit ragged as well Shang.
My seat wire also broke - I made a new one with some wire and some clamps from home depot (was using a couple of zip ties for a while which worked fine).

The quick disconnect cable idea is solid.

One of the most infuriating things to do on this bike is disconnect/reconnect the battery cables to the battery itself - it is a nightmare.

Whaaat, really? Oh I get it, sarcasm....

I am using this connector as well right now. It works well, but it a bit of a pull to disconnect so it winds up yanking on the cables inside the box. Also the connector is big and with the stiff cables it is hard to tuck it in the airbox without letting it rub on the airfilter.
