Beleive the Hype

Its a Ducati slogan and its true. Got 50 miles on my new Hyper and honestly its the most fun I've had on a street bike. Its the perfect street bike for an off road guy. Like all new bikes the EFI is a bit lean down low but I have a box to fix that coming soon. It takes some major restraint to stay near the speed limit.

Do you have a break in period or are you just out there flogging the heck out of it? I know when I got my DL650 it was a painful 600 miles of easy riding. Well, with a few power wheelies in between. I couldn't resist.:D

Congrats Glenn!
Yeah, you have to post up some pics of the beast.

If it feels anything like my tard, it feels like riding something illegal.... it is just too much fun on the road. Very maneuverable, very quick acceleration (power:weight ratio). It's addicting! :D

Yeah, it feels like it should be illegal. In fact, if Obama gets elected he will probably ban the Hypermotard in an attempt to protect us from ourselves. Its so natural feeling that you find yourself well over the speed limit on a backroad without doing it intentionally, but, the bike can handle it. Matt, I'm sure on the super tight roads a true motard like yours would be even better, but this thing really has soul like nothing else I've ever ridden. I thought about being Mr. practical and getting something else but knew everytime I saw a Hyper I would want one. Hey, we ride dirt bikes, who says motorcycles are about being practical, they are about passion.

I'm runnning it in at various RPM, no really high revs but no lugging either. Lots of run up and down the tach with a lot of compression braking, best way to break it in. I already removed the evap system and the off idle seems a little smoother as there was a small free bleed through the cannister. Next there is a servo motor that controls an exhaust valve with two cables, used to partially block the exhaust at certain RPMs, to pass Euro 3 sound tests! Needless to say thats history, I just have to design a limiter plate so the servo does not go overtravel and generate an ECU code when the cables are disconnected from the valve. Cat eliminator after that. Since its air cooled anything I can do to get rid of excessive heat from the Euro 3 tune is a good thing. Its nice to ride though and you don't feel heat on your legs at a stop light like an air cooled Harley.

I'll take some pics over the next few days.

Here is Glenn doing his break-in ride. Nice!!!

I'm on vacation in the Outer Banks, NC. Mansion of a house, even with 15 people its plenty big. Infection is looking better, half the size it was when I got here last Sat. I actually think the ocean has helped it. If it doesn't clear up and stay clear when I go off the Leviquin then I get cut and scraped. If that does not work then plate comes out.

I love the Hypermotard! Unlike a sportbike its bandwidth of performance is perfect for the street and thats what makes it such a hit. I went to a large bike night last week and had the only one there out of 100s of bikes of all types, and there was always a crowd around it. You would love it. I offered a ride to a friend who refused because he knew he would have to get one.

I wouldnt mind one but I think I would get in way too much trouble with one.. Got a hot tub for now.. to help with the back.. delivered yesterday and just hit 100,, looking like I'll be in that a few hrs tonight.. If it doesnt start to storm again.. Have fun down there! What town you near??

I'm back. I was in Waves, near Salvo. Beth set the whole thing up. I thought about bringing the Hyper on a trailer (I towed a trailer with stuff anyway) but its kind of boring down there as far as the road goes.

How's the neck? Maybe we can do our comeback rides together?

I see the one Doc this week about the neck/back and tomorrow I'm getting an injection in my knuckle to see if they can stop the pain and swelling of my right hand.. Other than the hand I'm starting to feel like myself again.. I'm thinking by September I should be back at work and hopefully back on a bike..

Sounds good. I'm back in the gym, tough road back at almost 50. See the doc tommorrow. If I don't have to get cut again I'm figuring doing Beehive if I can get in good enough shape. Probably start some easy trail riding early/mid August.
