best bars for tall riders

2010 gas gas ec300, bike was slightly small for me when i bought it, so i put a tall seat on, now i need a solution for the bars.. Should i put risers on it or buy a new set of bars with a different bend that would be more friendly for a tall rider or both? Any other tall guys out there on a Gas Gas, what is your set up like?

"Tall" is a fairly loose term. I'm 6'2" with relatively short legs, long torso(with a matching wing span). A tall seat is great because I don't have move much to transition between sitting & standing. I used to think I needed tall bars on everything. My newest addition to my paddock seems to trump my previous thinking. Both my 250 Gassers have tall seats, and standard risers w/CR HI ProTapers. My KX 250 has a standard seat foam, with stock bars(noticeably flatter than the CR HI bars I've been running. A taller seat foam is in the works, but I really like the feel of the shorter height bars on it. I know tall guys(6' & up) who run some fairly flat bars on their race bikes. I can only assume there's a reason. Just my personal observations & opinions, based on limited experience.

I played around with high risers & found (looped out twice) that I was not forward over the bars enough & too upright.Ran out of throttle cable play as well.Went back to standard risers mounted in the most forward position with Renthal fat bars RC High 609 & it works well.

Ok I think I'm settled on just changing the bars, no riser just a different bend. I'm trying to mimic the ergos of my wr300 which I feel much much better on while standing... The CR tall bend, how much taller then stock were they? All these different set ups is confusing, like will a kx tall bend feel different then a CR tall? I'm 6'3 btw and have a 34 inseam.

I went for a flatter bar with less sweep to pull myself forward. I found with the KX High bar that I was always pulling myself forward because the hand grips were in my lap and it felt like I was being forced to sit. I'll dig around for the bar that I bought, but it's very close to the stock Hebo from the 2004 250. Not too low, less sweep than CR or KX high, nice attack position to get the weight forward.

Look at all the pros bikes, even the big guys. Do you see tall bars? I tried taller bars, sub mount, and HATED them, constantly felt like I was fighting getting foward on the bike. I'm back to a low, 10 deg Flexxbar with only one shim under the mounts so I can reach the PFP adjuster. You should be able to read your front number plate when you get foward.

I think there is a fine line. You can easily go too high, but if you can't ride in the proper attack standing position, then the bars are too short.

Being 6'4" I find many stock bikes are too short, but usually 1/2" or so is plenty. My XRR has 1.5" risers with CR highs, but they are oldschool bars in crotch bikes. Don't get me wrong, some people rip like that but I feel I'm in a poor position and lacking leverage and strength while standing. Also awkward.

My KTM I put 1/2 or less on it with stock bars and it felt great. You do notice the risers on hill climbs till you get used to it. Too high and you find yourself fighting the bars in chest feeling on climbs. It's amazing how little adds up to so much!

I like to try as many bikes as I can to compare fitment and see what I like and what I don't. Bar position is always the biggest (beside lever positions) I notice right away.

i agree on the fine line, i guess what im looking for after reading all your guys posts is maybe a slightly taller bar, not much sweep. as it is now im leaned pretty far to get to the bars while standing. Like i said i like the ergos of my wr300 BUT for single track it doesnt hold a candle to the ec300. I want the fit of the Husky but the single track destroying capability of the gasser...

me

6'2" 2010 300

I put Trail Tech bars on mine. Tallest and straightest I could find.

Also have GPR submount and I modded the pegs (thanks to this site) which dropped them about 1/2"

This is the only reason I have been thinking about riser. I am currently running bars in forward hole. What size shim.... what you got Glenn.

How about moving your bars forward. I don't know where your bars are on your triple clamp and what the options are .. Some clamps have forward and rear holes for the bar mounts but maybe mounts to move the bars even more forward might be what would work better instead of changing the bars.
