Blue smoke

Hi,

I'm getting blue smoke from my 2006 FSE.
It happens when hot, nothing when cold. If I let it idle for a while and blip the throttle there's a big puff of smoke. If I rev it up and down there's a small amount of smoke both revving up and down. If however I just hold the revs high there's no smoke or at least not enough to see.

Is this piston/rings or valve guides/seals? I'm thinking a new piston and rings?

I should add there is no oil pool sat in the airbox, checked that.

Maybe try a leak down test??? But blue smoke should point towards rings, valve, guides and or seals......

Good Luck

Check that you didn't overfill it. At idle the c/case will tend to fill up and may cause some ring blowpast. The 06 sight window is pretty useless as a level as it is full with 1 litre of oil in the engine so it is easy to make a mistake when filling it.

Good point. I'll check.

Took the oil level right down and still smokes. Have ordered a new piston kit and valve guide seals. Maybe I should get the guides checked too - is there a way I can tell? I only have a simple digital vernier caliper. Have seen people using dial guages but how do you mount one on an aluminium head? Not even sure how much play is alowable. Wondering if I should just take the head to a specialist and have them fit new guides and maybe valves.
