Hello everybody, I am newbie in this forum.
I am a big fan of GG (2stroke) bikes and I have few questions about the GG Halley 125cc (mod.2009), the 4 stroke model. The last years I have had a GG 300ec (2str, mod. 2004) and I was very satisfied with it. I almost used it for everything, enduro, motocross, and some times for city disturbance...
But now, I have changed my preferences and I want an enduro or supermotard city bike in order to go like a gentleman(?) in my morning job and to mess around in the city with it. So, I felt in love with two bikes, the enduro version of the GG Halley 125cc (4str.) mod.2009, and the supermotard Beta RE (4str.-mod.2007). Both bikes are also aircooled with very low fuel consumption.
My concerns are focused on the version of the GG Halley 125cc (4str) because I have heard that the GG 125cc (4str) is the only GG bike that has a Chinese-built motor, piston, cylinder etc. but it was assembled in Spain like the rest of their bikes and after several thousands miles the piston slaps the cylinder, it burns oil like a 2stroke, terrible stories about their quality etc. Because of these problems the Halley became infamous. Is that true? Any Reliability issues?
In contradiction, the supermoto Beta RE 125cc (4str.) share the same Minarelli-Yamaha engine which is also used in Yamaha XT 125, Rieju 125, Sherco 125. Some of them tend to have some minor electric faults but nothing serious to worry about it (Italian Engineering ). In general, their reliability is quite acceptable.
- GG Halley 125cc(4str): NEW-Stock, 0km: 3130$ (2400?), 2nd Hand: 1300$(1000?) with aprox. 7500 miles (12000 km)
- Beta RE 125(4str.): NEW-Stock only, 0km: 2870$ (2200?)
I tend to keep my bike at least 5years. So, which one should I choose? Any opinion/and/or any alternative bikes are also acceptable. TNX
