Changing the base gasket...

Hello chaps,

Sorry for the basic question...

What bits would I need to remove from the bike in order to change the base gasket?

It would be my first time going into an engine so want to know how much needs to be removed before deciding whether to give it go or take it to a shop.

The bike is a 2006 EC250.

Thanks,

Fairly easy. You can do it.
Remove tank, carb., exhaust, coolant hoses to head, engine mounts to head, right side PV cover, disconnect power valve actuator arm (heat nut 1st to melt locking plastic).
The right front cylinder nut is in a tight spot. I use a 13mm box end wrench and insert a torque wrench into the crow's foot end of that wrench (adjust torque value for the extension at reassembly).

Two bits to be careful at.

1. Removing the PV actuating rod - easy to break the little tab it attaches to.
2. Refitting the cylinder over the piston - make sure the rings are located correctly on the piston (little spigots in the ring grooves) and that they don't jump out when sliding the cylinder over. Oh and make sure the rings and piston sides have a smear of oil - doesn't need much.
