Check Map Switch with Multimeter

I am less than knowledgeable with my new multimeter. I want to check my map switch on my 2011 300 to make sure it is working. What is the procedure to check that switch with a multimeter?

Set multimeter to "ohms".
Touch leads together, should read 0 or .1 (ie very low) = closed circiut.
Leads apart should read MegOhms (ie infinitely large) = open circuit.

Attach leads to switch wires and see reading change when switch is actuated. I believe open circuit = rain mode, closed circuit = sun mode.
This presumes your switch is disconnected (otherwise your readings will reflect the result of whatever devices wind up in the circuit).

I finally got into the garage today. I had moved my switch from the rad hose to the right side of my handlebars. The original map switch wires were way too short. I added some additional wiring to the map switch. I wired it up and used a heat gun to apply the black shrink wrap. When I rode the switch wasn't working so I started this thread.

I had a short in one my wire connectors, so I fixed that without a problem. Neil, you were right except I got the infinitely large reading on the sun mode (open circuit)and low reading on the rain mode (closed circuit).

Neil, thanks for the help!

That's interesting. My switch reads closed on sunshine and open on rainy. I found I only used sunshine so I removed the switch and just shorted the wires together.

Interesting. We need someone else to try this and confirm the settings. Maybe I had it right the first time.

I just took a reading from the switch again today. My switch doesn't have the sun and rain indicators anymore. I think I made a mistake. The large reading is on the small button on the switch and low reading is on the large button on the switch.

From what I can see in one of my photos, the small button is RAIN, so the high ohms means open circuit. Large button = SUN = circuit closed. This may help someone in the future.
