Clatter on "over run".. Maybe power valve?

Hi all, My 2007 EC250 has a clatter which only appears on the overrun after a high rev. The motor is very quiet otherwise and no unusual noises at idle or a steady throttle opening.
I have removed the right side power valve cover and it appears to be adjusted correctly but I notice that the shaft (that sits in the bearing) has a fair amount of end float. I can move it in and out and it makes a similar clack..

Is this something that can be adjusted using a shim?

Thanks

John

That end of the power valve (there are three pieces that move) should be held quite securely by the bearing and a small collar underneath the little triangle shaped actuator plate.
Make sure that little collar is there. Check the parts fiche to visualise what I mean.
Also check the weld on the back of the triangle plate. They are known to break.
On high hour motors the bearings can become loose in the barrel. Some careful loctiting can squeeze some more hours out of these.

The clatter was the exhaust... Both mounts were goosed..

I have installed a small shim on the left hand side and it is much quieter so I shall take the power valve apart give it a clean up and renew the bearings.
