conventional forks

Ok, I have a 2001 xc300 with the wp 43mm forks. My forks have some pitting in the chrome & one bottom bolt is stripped. I want something different rather than spend a lot of money on the wp's. I have thought about the Yamaha SSS conversion, but It seems really expensive. Even if I did that I would have to have them re-valved & I can't spend that much on this bike. I have read a lot of good things about the 43mm Showa conventional forks that came on 96-98 Suzuki Rm's. I have seen a few sets with triple clamps for under $200 on ebay. I even considered a KDX or DRZ front fork/clamp/wheel if they are any good. I know there were WP extreme 50mm, & some Marzocci conventionals on gassers in the past with good reviews. I remember someone had put XR650 conventionals on a gasser & loved them. I'm just looking at options & if anyone has some good info I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

I have a set of 94 cr250 forks,triple clumps. Not sure hos they compare to w hat you need. I bought them for my girls cra230 conversion,but not using. If you think'm k they might work for you.let me know.

Thanks for the offer ADV rider. That's a good price but I'm really looking for some "right side up" forks that came on a woods bike, I think those usd CR motocross forks will be similar to what I have now. I'm trying to avoid revalving if I can. If what I have read is true KDX forks are simple to add/remove shims & tune with springs & oil, probably DRZ forks as well. I was hoping someone here had done a swap or had some advice on which forks may be better for a gasgas. I know I can make them mount up but I am not certain about the rake or steering offset on any of them. Thanks again!

I have a set of KDX forks complete and in good shape the last I looked at them. They came stock on my son's 1993 kdx200 which he blew up in the late 90s. These are USD (non-conventional) forks that only came on the 93 & 94 model 200s. They are anodized blue (from the factory). $125 plus shipping - I'm in Tennessee.

Look for some conventional forks off a 1987 or 1986 CR 250. These were cartridge forks. IMHO,these are some of the best forks ever made especially the 1987 forks. These forks are better than a lot of the modern forks. The conventional Suzuki RM forks from the late 90s are also great forks.

Thanks for the offer Gasser, I will keep that in mind. It will be after Christmas before I can spend any more on bikes. Motoman 7 did the 87 Cr's have a front disc brake?
