dirt in the fuel tank

The last days I got problems with a leaking carburator.
First I checked the float and adjust it.
Today I found an other solution.
There where some dirt in the tank and very fine dirt in the carb.
May be this blocking the float needle.
I have this f... 2 part tank (black/transparent).
I heard from many broken/leaking tanks.
Thats why GG 2010 change back to a one part item.
What was the reason for this gasgas masterstroke.
How can I clean this tank complete?

I had a similar problem.
Dirt was getting in and I was also getting water in.
Only found the entry point by chance as I was tipping the fuel tank over in my hands and trying to see if there was any water in the tank .
I tilted the tank so that fuel was about to come out of the filler hole but did not let it overflow out.
There was fuel coming out though through a split in the filler cap screw on part of the tank.
I siliconed it around the neck of the tank and it seems to be ok.
To clean out the tank I just emptied it with the petcock removed, cleaned out tank with a bit of Metho(sloshed around inside), and then cleaned petcock filter and petcock tap itself.
There was quite a lot of grit in there.
Good luck,
Mark

Is this something new? These tanks have been around for years. Only issue was on new bikes where plastic shards could be left inside but the fuel filter would catch them. Have you rerouted your carb vents? That is a common path for dirt in any Keihin carb.

Not sure,
Mine was just split.
I have only rerouted the radiator over flow hose.
Cheers Mark

I don't think that the dirt comes from there, because I clean my carb and don't leave my garage and after 3 time remove I found the dirt.
I don't rerouted the vents - I'm a GG newbie.:D
In which way.
Do you have a foto.
thanks
