Doing away wth Nikasil

so who here has got rid of the Nikasil coating on there 300 barrel, I want to get my bike rebuilt and get rid of it and use a bigger piston, Only problem is I don't know what to use for a piston or what the barrel would be like.

Cheers Bill

It would seem like your only options are to strip the Nikasil, bore the cylinder, and re-plate, or strip/bore/press in sleeve.

You can't run a piston without either a sleeve or a coating like Nikasil.

Barrel without nicasil coating or steel sleeve would be single started :D

Eric Gorr did a big bore kit in my 2000 XC300 and we made it a 327cc. It uses the ATC250 or TRX big bore 76mm piston. I got my last one from Eddie Sanders Racing. http://www.eddie-sanders-racing.com/product_p/wiseco piston.htm

It was not a simple task but it does add some real nice power across the rpm range. As I recall you will need to: 1) bore the cylinder and replate it for the larger piston 2) weld and cut the head to match the new larger cylinder bore, 3) cut the new piston skirts and side windows to clear and match the cases and also grind on the cases to clear the piston.

After the big bore kit it was a good match for a KTM 380.
