EC 250 motor rebuild opinions

Need to rebuild my sons 02' XC250,clutchside main bearing cage let go,luckily cases are ok. plan on doing top end as well while it's apart as piston to cylinder clearance is near max. The bike had a vesrah rod in it,I was surprised to see "made in japan", on the rod. The piston looks like a wiseco to me, which I've not had the best of luck with in the past on other bikes.I'm just courious of members opinions/experiences regarding cr250 con. rod crossover and wiseco/vertex/woessner piston reliability.

I have 5 years on a Wiseco. Wiseco are fine as long as you have the right piston-cylinder clearance (i ride slowly, had 2 broken wrists and WAY too much work during those 5 years). Everyone badmouths Wiseco, but they've been fine. I've used them since the 1970's when I worked at the motorcycle shop.

Sounds like you had better luck with the Wiseco than you did your main bearing.

Good luck.

For what it's worth....Why divert....been using the Wiseco piston...since day one! Gas'er are build for the long haul! Tons of hours on the same rod and lower end big bearings....ohhhhh Wait....never split the cases.... Good Luck!!!!

First off let me state that the main bearing failure was my fault. My son and I rode his first "real" enduro together last fall at a national since he was only 15 and the event was "off-road". Long story short he fell in a creek, bike running, couldnt get to it right away. After the race I threw the bikes in the shop and picked up my bow and my deer stand, long story short again here we are with killer weather/conditions in march and a kickstarter that wont budge=my bad. I already have my opinion on which route to take, but cannot afford it at this time, thought I'd throw this out there to validate my personal beliefs, twisted as though they may be.
I recall reading post on "this piston vs that piston" and this "con rod vs that con rod" and was just looking to refresh my memory.
Thanks
