I need a coil for my 450. Pulled the old one off. The # is MFS400380006

I wonder why I dont have a 450 coil.

Not sure if my pm's are working. I know this is an old thread, but if you still have that coil for sale I need to buy it. Part # mfs400380006

Thanks

Hey guys,

I've been scouring the internet for solutions to a no spark problem on an 05 fse 450, and I've tried a bunch of different things. Everything seems to be perfect, other than the fact I'm not getting a secondary resistance reading through the coil. One fella I called said this is normal, but everything else I've read says otherwise?

I'm hoping to buy one, but was hoping you guys might be able to shed some light on the matter first.

Thanks!

Has anyone tried to replace the FSE450 ignition coil with VAG group(VW/Audi/Skoda) ignition coil? By the appearance they are the same and the plug should be the same. If anyone has one coil to measure, then share the results....length etc.
Example:

Okay i went on a limb and bought one VAG group ignition coil (part 036905715), as on above picture. Measurments are all the same, plug fits but the wire order is little bit different. So reorderd the pins but still no spark :(
Are the inside electronics really this different that you can't get a spark? Or is it possible i got defective coil from shop?
It's crazy how GasGas wants 150-200 euros for original coil and car coils cost 20-30 euros :S

Would MFS450780006 ignition coil work on older models?
MFS450780006 is for 2007 and up models so it would be for Kokusan ECU.
But it has built in igniter like older one. It has 3 pins vs 4pins but usually 4 pin ones have 2 grounds.
So i'm wondering if Kokusan and Magneti Marelli ECU-s have the same triggering signal? I think Marelli has 12v trigger signal for ignition?

Hi all.

Was there any answer to this? I have just bn told mine is on the way out for my 05 FSE450. Would be good if there could be an easy answer.

I got my hands on 2002 FSE400 electrical schematic and i was suprised that they use there "ordinary" ignition coil (2-pin connection). So why did they install 4 pin pencil coils from 2004? Does that mean that we could just replace the pencil coil with random ordinary ignition coil?
Or was there maybe a reason that they would use 4pin coil that has built in igniter?

Okay...little bit success. I got one Denso coil from Honda CBR 1000RR (p.n.129700-5150) and....it works!!
At the moment i have tried it only in garage but as soon as i get my hands on Denso connector, i'll go for a test ride and will let you know if it works or will it die :)

Okay, so got all the connectors and made a little guide for anyone looking for a cheap alternative for GasGas ignition coil. This should work from 2004-2006 bikes which have the 4 pin ignition coil with part numbers: BFS450334000 , MFS400380006 maybe some other numbers also.
New replacement coil is with part number: 129700-5150 (some other 129700 coils might work too, but i don't know the length of the other ones, 5150 is just the right legth!)
This is Denso coil and is used on different bikes....Hayabusa, CBR etc....so pretty common.(i got mine from ebay for ~$16, low mileage, like new)
If you don't want to damage the original wiring then you also need one VAG connector and one Denso connector. You could skip the Denso connector and use 3.2mm insulated terminals and just fill the coil side connection with silicone.
Part numbers are on the picture. So here's the little guide:

I have made couple of test runs with this coil and everything works great!

Tafka,

How did you go with the testing?
If I can't get this fixed Im about to chuck Gas Gas away as this is my first issue with the bike and can get no support on it in Melbourne. All Mechs here, although very knowledgeable and helpful, seam to have moved away from this era of bike.

Well the coil works, no troubles at the moment with the coil.
Still have some issuses when hot but those are not realted to ignition coil...i think my fuel mixture is out of balance somewhy :/
Would love to change my GasGas to some other bike also, because i'm fed up with the issues....BUT i don't have the heart to sell "broken" things to others...not like the previous owner who sold me the bike and few months later i had the pleasure to change almost everything in the engine :) My dealer has also no idea what could be wrong with the bike :/

VAG coil did not work! At least one that i tried....but theres many many versions of VAG coils.
Connector may be the same but that doesn't mean it works.
But if you say your coil has VW/Audi logos then share a picture or part number for others :)
