flywheel weight ?

do you have a real ec or the de?? A real ec would not need a fww. I'm guessing you have a de or maybe an xc. I have an 06 de with a 12 oz fww. hmmm maybe 10 oz can't remember. steahly makes fww ... also check out go fasters for'em, they will set you up with what ever you need.

do they make aflywheel weght for a ec 300 2003 , has anyone put one on ? Do they work on a ec?

I put one on my EC300. You can't get much on without modifying it because there isn't room in the cover. If you space the cover out you would need a different gear lever. To be honest I couldn't tell the difference with the small weight that would fit.

My 03 de 250 had one on it when i bought it. I rode it for a year with it on and when I took it off, it sure did wake the bike up. More wheel spin, but quicker revs. The only way its going back on is if it is a nasty wet mud race. I hindsight, if I didn't have it on during last year's Peace Pipe Enduro I wouldn't have finished. It was brutal.

I just had a 10-oz. put on my '07 300EC. I like smooooth power. fits fine, works great, smoother power & no stalling under hard braking in corners, no regrets.

What ignition do you have 2K2 or 2K3 and what needle are you using? My 07 EC300 came with the 2K3 ignition.

Just an FYI to others. The 2k3 flywheel is only 1 1/4oz heavier than the 2K2 (DE ignition) although it carries it's mass different which does seem to translate to snappier power delivery. There is a misconception that the 2K3 has this much heavier flywheel and it doesn't. Much higher light and accessory output though.

Skidad,

sorry I have no clue a/t either question. I swapped for the bike after it had been raced by the shop manager, so it was already all set up. I have a 3 year-old who wants to "help" with everything I do, so I did not even try to install the weight myself, the shop installed it for $5....

it's a nice change, I really like it.

I have both ignitions for my 300 and it is a big difference.

I'm sure there is but this guy is asking about adding weight to an ec which is already the heavy rotor. I have tried that and you can't get enough weight in the standard cover to feel the difference .. on the EC.

I couldn't really tell if he had the 2 or 3 ignition from his post.

Gaklx, If you have the 2k2 ignition your flywheel wt should fit. I assume it just threads onto the igntion end of the crank. It replaces the nut on the 2k2. If your ignition wires exit at about 10 oclock then you have the 2k2 and a wt should spin right on.

Well I rest my case on not being able to tell the difference of adding a 10 oz weight to an EC. It's adding about 15% to the MOI of the flywheel which will be a whole lot less to the engine as a whole.

I did not read the link you cite, but the difference is quite noticeable to me.

It depends on which ignition you have. The true EC models have a heavy flywheel already. Or maybe you're very sensitive. I'm guessing now but I bet adding a 10oz wt to the EC is in the region of adding 5%. Maybe if I rode back to back I could tell the difference but I reckon even an hour between rides I couldn't be sure of that small a change.

iancp, mine's the true EC, so far as I know. I think it's 2 things:

1. I wasn't looking for a huge change, I really like the engine characteristics, I just wanted a little more engine momentum in corners, b/c I was stalling now & then.

2. I am picky like Goldilocks about bike set up.

the 10 oz. weight is just enough to carry a little more momentum in the corners, w/o killing the snap or the rev on top. it does just that, + it is a litttle easier to get hooked up on trials-type terrain at low speeds/revs.
