Foam or No Foam

Should I install foam between my skidplate and engine or not? I am worried that the foam will just become a heavy piece of swamp water that cakes muck worse than ever.
Who had done it? Who has regretted it? The foam I have is very open cell. It came with the Scorpion Racing skidplate.

I never used it with a basic alloy plate but I do with the Hyde as its a mud funnel. It definately helps keep the mud out. Mud will collect on the outside of the foam and water runs through it. You don't leave it in there, but pull it every time you wash the bike, wash it, and reinstall. The Moose stuff I have is heat resistant as I pack it around the header with no problems.

Les (LTR) used to sell a nice plastic mud guard that zip tied to the frame around the pipe header and blocked a lot of the mud from parking on the front of the motor.

lol you got that right. i havnt gotten foam yet, but imagine two big cupped hands right behind the front tire and you get the idea. i have to take mine off every time i wash it, as there is just no way to get all of the mud out. the only reason i have the hyde is because i have yet to find a cage pipeguard skidplate combo in the US. the minute one shows up i will be all over it. i dont like pipeguards that mount to the pipe because they still allow the pipe to bend and move out of place. i will get foam the next time i place an order for parts some place....
