Greetings.
Just a heads up. This weekend, one of the tabs which hold the right side footpeg broke on my 2002 de 300 at the weld. Fortunately, i was just climbing a sandy hill (standing up) when it let go. I just plopped on the seat and continued the climb. The upper bracket weld broke, and the subsequent load bent the lower tab down. footpeg was hanging, but still attached.
The weld was of very poor quality. Only about 1/2 of the length of the tab showed any penetration at all, and that penetration wasn't very deep. The bike is older, but hadn't been ridden much by the PO (or so I was told). I have put about 90 hours on it in 2 years, but mostly riding behind my daughter, so not putting a lot of load on the footpeg.
Not trying to be a whiner, but just a heads up. Hopefully it was a one time fluke. In 37 years of riding / wrenching, I haven't seen this before. Hopefully, you won't see it at all. But, for the guys who ride harder than me (and that is probably most of you), it might be something you want to check.
From now on, i take off the footpegs on occasion, and try to bend the tabs to see that the weld is still good.
Thanks.
