Just got boring. Too many revenue agents running bogus speed traps in the rich towns I ride through going to work, and too many close calls with minivans full of kids and mom on the cell phone. I primarily rode it to work, but its to nice for that. Never took it out if the road was wet. If I had a free day to ride, I would always choose the woods over the street. NJ/NY area is one of the most dangerous places in the USA to ride a streetbike. Worst close call was with a cop, beleive it or not. Cut right across an undivided highway in front of me to chase someone. Saw me and panicked, stopped in my path rather than continuing on, I could see his face. Had both ends locked, I was lucky to save it. I'm not too fond of cops.

Now that its spring I'm motivated to sell this again. $10K. You won't find a cleaner stock one. A lot of these are modded and sometimes not correctly. Pass it on if you know anyone looking. Thanks.

Just about the same reason I'm getting rid of my 07 electra glide. Dirt still turns me on but the road kinda scares me. that and I didn't really need a high zoot 800 lb touring bike for local riding. I might replace it with a modern bonny or maybe a drz sm for running around the city. Gonna put it out there in about two weeks.

I just got back on the street. A good friend of mine gave me a 1992 Kawasaki Concours. It's not the bike I envisioned riding, but it's perfect for me and the wife to cruise on and I have been riding it to work. It's the perfect bike. It was free, everything works, and it's fun. It's not perfect, but it's in good shape. Anyway, I still prefer dirt and trees. I can ride less paranoid in the woods.

Actually I was on the fence about the street this year, but $4/gal gas by summer and a 75-80 mile daily commute in a V8 truck made me think twice. The VRod is just not a great commuter. Comfy and smooth, but like any cruiser quick manuvers are difficult. Also the whole Harley bling thing just isn't my style.

The local Ducati dealer gave me a pretty good number on a trade, and I could ride home on an '08 Hypermotard for the Rod and $1500. If it doesn't sell easy in a couple weeks I just might do it. The Hyper, while being a unique and fun bike, makes sense in a lot of ways. Its light, easy and fast handling, awesome brakes, and better suited for backroads with some rough sections that I frequently encounter. I LOVE the upright position, and since I avoid the highway when I can the wind blast is a non issue. Basically it seems like a lot more fun at reasonable speeds. Insurance is not that bad either, about $530/yr for full coverage.

Its the $4,000 hooker of motorcycles!:D Actually $12,000, BUT, the wife gives the approval!

the new 800 cc twin "mini gs" from bmw looks like it would fit the bill nicely. But I guess that'll be 11 to 12k and I don't think its suppose to show up until late summer or next year!!

Steve, I have permission!

Not really into the Beemers, but the Duc certainly has personality.

That Duc is a mighty nice bike. All my friends are putting the pressure on me to get a road bike but I'm having problems finding something to get excited about. The duc might be it.

Price reduced to $9500 firm. If you guys know anyone looking please let them know. I'll trade it in a couple weeks for a Duc Hyper if it doesn't sell.

V Strom 650 is my choice. Cheap, super fun, super versatile, easy maintenance and reliable. 6 speed and you can spank many sportier bikes as well. ABS on the newer ones too. Not as glamorous as the Ducati but not the headaches either.

I think a lot of people DO go Ducati for the "glamour" but real Duc lovers ride the hell out of the things.

I don't know where that "headache" thing attributed to Ducs comes from but I think it's WAY overblown. Maybe from the early days when they were more of a "diamond in the rough."

I've put a lot of HARD miles on my M800. Several get offs on the "track" fully loaded 3000+ mile camping tours, weekly backroad floggings and it has never let me down. 20,000 miles in 3 relatively short MN seasons. If one is even somewhat mechanically inclined he/she can easily do all required maintenance.

There are the typical EFI issues associated with all newer lean burnin EPA approved fuel delivery systems, but other than that I'm not seeing the "headache" myth.

Ducs seem a lot like GGs in a way. They apear to be a riders bike, with major personality. I like that. Sure, I could by an SV650 for 6K and not take a wrench to it all summer, but I know I'd be bored. I need something to get excited about that my wife will accept.:D The Ducati is something that really gets my heart rate up just looking at it, just like my GG does on the stand when I open the garage door. I imagine riding it will be the same, and isn't that why we all ride ? The KTMs are UGLY, and overpriced as well.

Rpduc is right. I've been doing a lot of research and the Duc 2 valve motors are very reliable. The issue for potential owners who don't do their own maintanence is the service intervals and associated high service costs, due to the Desmo valve system. When you look into it, its no big deal, especially for a dirt bike guy who spins wrenches all the time. I figure about one valve adjustment a year. I'm not going to beat the bike up, it will see steady but moderate use, too many bored cops around here to be a Hooligan. Everything else looks simple to work on, its a naked bike. The V-twin power is a lot more practical for street use than a Jap I4, and the bike itself created a whole new class.

The lean running issue is common to all new bikes, to different degrees. The Hyper is said to be not bad, plus there are several options to eliminate it. An inexpensive Techlusion module will be available by June that will allow easy tuning, and eliminate the O2 sensor. Other than that there are programable ECUs and software available, sometimes faily cheap on ebay or the Duc sites' classifieds.

I would like to find a good on-line dealer for basic OEM parts like valve shims and timing belts, parts crossover, and get some parts prices. The local dealer seems like a real Ahole and has that reputation among other owners here in north Jersey. They gave me a low ball # on my trade when I finally did go there to deal, so I will buy elsewhere in a couple weeks or so.

Rpduc, thanks for the info so far and I'm sure I'll have more questions.

Sure, I could by an SV650 for but I know I'd be bored.

.

Bored???Heck your riding and that's really what matters. I'm not pushing the V Strom, it was just a thought but ask anyone who owns one and they'll tell you it's a really fun bike. I'm sure the Duc is as well.

Have you considered one of the V twin Aprillia's in street guise? Now those are really cool little bikes.

Not saying its bad, just a little too plain. I guess I just want a little more than a ride to work and back. Plus, I only want a naked bike, no plastic.

I like the new Aprillia Shiver as well. They just hit the US so very little history. The SXVs have a poor rep with reliability and Aprilla not such a good rep as far as customer service goes, at least in the past.
