GasGas 2018 E-Start vs new Rieju E-Start

Hi Guys,
Where should I even (e)start... 2 Years ago i got My 2018 300 GP Edition and the E Start never really worked. Up to this point I tried every single Idea you guys posted in this Forum but still, it didn't change much.

A few months ago I was on the brink of selling my GasGas out of frustration and over 500€ spent in replacement Parts for a Starter that maybe works when the bike is hot.
My dad thankfully suggested to ditch the 12V starter motor for a RC Plane Brushless Motor 3 times the power. This workaround solved the starting Issues by using brute force. However the complexity of the System also adds a lot of unreliability. So yesterday my ESC (which powers the 3 Phase RC Motor) broke because moisture had gotten into the Casing.

Now im back at square 1. Do I replace the expensive ESC and deal with the somewhat unreliable but working RC Motor, or should I try to get the 12V System working again?

The same day My ESC went, I met a few guys on their new Rieju MR's. I asked them if the e Start on those Bikes holds up, and the said that they never had any Problems because "Rieju improved the whole System"... Surprisingly when He Started the bike up for me, the Noise coming from the Rieju E Star was very pleasant and not the usual metal gears grinding together like from my GasGas Bike. Of course I already looked at the allegedly new and improved design of the Rieju's and I personally couldn't see any differences in Parts apart from the needle bearing in the Bendix cover, which I had already purchased for my GasGas.

So my Question to you Guys, do you know of any major differences between the new and "improved" Design compared to the old GasGas System?
My Idea now is to maybe buy the new Rieju Complete System (see attachment) and hopefully get rid of any wear that might prevent my old System from working.

Im Happy for any suggestions as to what I should do now. Sadly the TPI KTM's are getting more and more attractive with their fancy always working E start :(

I get it VP, I have a 2018 also - and my answer to this question is...ditch the RC Motor and try going 24 volt, it's easy to do and has been the answer for me (takes a $120 Anti-gravity battery). Then if that doesn't work (possibly because of wear in your system) go the Rieju route. I don't know what changes were made with the new updates. It's the same basic design, but others can chip in on whether the new starter gears are beveled differently (I think they are). My point is that you will may want 24v even with the new setup. It turns over faster and is easier on the system IMO.

fwiw,

Jeff

I just started to put some time on my Ranger. I love the bike but with less than 6 hours( I have multiple bikes) and the starter has stopped working I am going to try this;

If it doesn't work I am going to Jeff's 24 volt option.Jeez you would think that they had worked this out.

I put the reiju starter upgrade on my 2018 and it has not missed a beat. Starts hot or cold. It's an upgrade I made that was worthwhile. I already upgraded my battery to higher cca to try to get the previous starter working. I can't remember all the differences but it's in an oil bath, bendix cover has a small bearing in it where the old one didn't. There may be more..
