Getting ready for a new gasser

I'm selling my trusty 2003 250EC with hopes to replace it with a 2010 model. I'm probably going to stick with the 250 as I've had two of them and really like the power. My big question is whats is the differences between the USA version EC, Six Days and Racing Versions. I'm leaning toward the Racing due to the marzocchi fork and ohlins shock (at least that's what the main gasgas page says they come with) Can nybody give me some info on these three and what the main differences are between the three. Thanks.

Other than the plastics/stickers i cant spot any difference between the Ec and the 6 days, the racing has a few bits, different sachs fork, ohlins shock, racing CDI/brakes and weight saving things. I assume you have the factory web link to look to see if you can see any differences between the Ec and six days, 'cos after a quick look i couldnt see any:confused:

It's very confusing every year it seems. I would call Go Fasters and talk with Mark or Steve and get the full lowdown on what is actually going to be available and the differences or each. Make a list for each bike and the differences and make a choice.

I can tell you no Marzocchi forks are on the bikes now and the Racing version is STIFF and will need to be revalved unless your AA type material. Not even sure the Racing gets an Ohlins shock either. Probably a Sachs The Six Day models have pretty much been a graphics package the last few years (sweet looking though) over the std EC models. All US bikes get FMF pipes (a good one) and silencers.

I'm pretty sure here in the UK the marzocchi forks are back for '10 on all ec's, at least when i made inquiries into a new bike thats what my dealer told me...........

Looks like the 125/200 get the 45mm Marzocchi forks, 250 four stroke gets 45mm Sachs everything else gets 48mm Sachs.

Also looks like the Racing does in fact get the Ohlins shock.

Wish they would just put on 50mm Marzocchi (open or closed chamber) forks and Ohlins shocks. Dump the Sachs stuff.

They have 2010 model here in the USA? When did that happen? ;)

There are limited numbers on the ground now, but the second shipment should hit shore Monday.

How do I know that? 'Cuz I've been tracking the ship! PM me if you're in the Midwest and we'll talk turkey on the new bikes.

The dealer in Maryville, TN has a 2010 250 4stroke Gasser but he can't sell it because GasGas has yet to supply a muffler for it. He seemed to be really pissed at GasGas yesterday because a 300 e start buyer had just canceled his order after being informed that the electric start will not make it to the 2010 models. The fellow bought a KTM instead. 2011 KTMs will be on the show room floors by July at the latest - anyone want to bet that there will be more than a handful of 2010 gassers in the country before then? GasGas will never make any inroads into the American market if they continue to deliver current technology models to show room floors 9-10 months after KTM. They might well do it with some thing radically different (aka 2009 Husabergs) but not with a bike that is this close to its competition.

I'm sorry if my previous post sounded like sour grapes but my loyalty also extends to the good dealers and importer of these fine bikes and I feel they are hurting a lot right now.

The only 2011 (2010.5?) that might be in the showroom in July is the new 350SXF. In order for KTM to race that bike in the outdoor nationals they have to have 100 or so availble to purchase VERY soon and I'm sure all the first ones are spoken for. I would say more like October for 2011 KTM's.

I'm not gonna make any excuses for GG but really how silly has the new model release stuff become just for 1 upsmanship on the showroom floor. IMO a 4th qtr. release of new product should be fine and not in the freaking middle of the year or even 3rd qtr. It's really gotten kind of crazy.

Oh, and I'm not so sure I'd blame GG Spain about the late arrival of bikes to the US. You can blame our US importer for waiting sooooooo long to actually order the 2010 bikes which should have and could have been ordered last Sept NOT Dec. when it finally happened:rolleyes:

Either way it's awful business practice. I am not sure I really care who's error it is when it just perpetuates poor representation of the brand overall.

I know a ktm dealer who doesn't like that .....
He would much rather have the change over happen late fall or winter
Early season change over evidently results in too many previous year hold overs. People hold off from spring buys waiting for new stuff.

Course that is no excuse for not having plenty of bikes in the states right now!! Gas Gas + Marketing = Fail!!!!

Skidad I'm just going off what a local KTM dealer said. He also races a gasser himself and has the most active GasGas dealership in this area.
I'm not a KTM guy but I'll bet when the new 350SXF hits the showroom floor it will have a muffler on it.

Soon and very soon

For those of you keeping score at home, the ship did a touch-and-go at New York Harbor and is headed for Norfolk. The latest container should be unloaded and on its way to Kansas City on Monday.

Could the bikes have been here sooner? Likely, but in reality the riding season is just getting underway in a lot of places. And if you're thinking of trading out a six or seven-year-old bike for a new one, you'd have to work hard to convince anyone you're concerned about having the latest and greatest scoot. Then again, the '10s were a big enough change that it would have been nice to have had them earlier. Too late for a lot of GNCC riders or guys contesting the National Enduros.

The unique-to-America bits are troublesome to be sure ... I think its actually FMF that's supposed to be developing a can for the 250F - but product development can be like that. Still, it would suck having a bike and not being able to ride or sell it - I'd be inclined to make something work. It's not like there aren't a kajillion 250F silencers out there to choose from.

* If you're still on the fence about getting a new bike, come out to Battle Creek, Michigan May 22nd for a 2010 GasGas "taste test", and then stay over for one of our best hare scrambles races. *

Peace out

twowheels, you are just to funny following that container ship. Real dedication and probably a good indicator of what kind of dealer you are;)

I agree, with the nice improvements for 2010 it would have been really great to have the bikes much earlier than now. Remember GG had that big 2010 bike intro last Sept. and then it all went to hell.

I was told from GF that shortly after the bike intro last Sept. the new 250F was sent to FMF to get the S/A muffler made. Very disappointing that's it's not done yet and dealer can't sell em (all 6 that made it to the States in the first shipment:rolleyes: )

I'm not a KTM guy but I'll bet when the new 350SXF hits the showroom floor it will have a muffler on it.

Yeah, of course it will, a MX muffler. GG had a muffler for the 250F also BUT it wasn't spark arrested so I presume that's the big holdup. Of course KTM is big enough to produce thier own S/A mufflers as needed. Why simple crap like that can't be handled by GG Spain is beyond me. It not rocket science and a known issue requirement for US models.

I do agree with Skidad as far as its disappointing to see GG not getting the S/A issue sorted out. But i wonder if it comes down to , that GG has had very poor sales in the US ( Considering the market size ) for many years due to many different reasons , and yet elsewhere in the world , especially Europe and Aus , the are a very popular brand. Maybe they dont require the same degree of silencer and GG is just looking at providing to the mass's. The big banana silencer on my 300's is a decent product made by or for GG , but i too like a S/A , so i opt for warm weather riding with an FMF on it , and use the stocker in the wet season. As far as 2010 models in general , they have Come and gone well here in Canada to the point of no more 300's available this year from the factory , so im told , maybe they are saving all the engines for the upcoming build of the Nambotins . One other thing maybe to consider , is that the recent economic down turn has been felt very hard in Europe , as much as here in North America and in some cases harder. Im sure GG is feeling the pinch like all other manufacturers of , lets be honest , a Luxury toy , and has watched the bottom line closer this year. Maybe just some reasons for the lack of the R and D to get sorted the S/A issue , and also the lack of Promotement in the worlds largest market. Just some random thoughts from a HAPPY GG Owner
