GG 250 for Dual Sport/Adventure riding?

I'm putting this in the racers thread cause I have no idea where else to put it. My real idea is to ride my GG to a Scramble or Enduro, do it, and ride it home. Why not? I did it on a KLR 650 twice. The ride to the race was fun, and the first 40 miles of the race was fun, then I kinda got tired. Then the ride home sucked cause it rained.

My idea of DS/Adv riding is as much dirt as I can get and as little pavement. That said, you can't do DS or Adventure riding without some highway riding. I rode thousands of miles on pavement on a Yamaha DT 250 when I was a kid but that bike vibrated very little and was very easy to ride. But my 01 GG vibrates fairly little and is easy to ride, and has a tall set of gears. Why not use it for some DS riding? Anyone done it?

I have a 12oz flywheel wt on the way, G2 throttle, and buying the larger powervalve cover. Any other ideas? A big tank is a must of course. IMS and Clarke both have them, but are there any tanks from other bikes that will fit? How am I gonna get more lighting output? I guess I could pull my generator on a trailer to power some Baja lights.

Am I nuts? (Jim Cook, you keep your thoughts to yourself).

I do a bit of pavement riding to get to trails.
I'd run LED lights instead of upgrading the stater, you can get some crazy bright LEDs now.
Get the wheels set up with 2 rim locks and balance them the tire shake bugs me more than the engine vibs.
Get a wider more comfy seat the stock one sucks for that type of riding.
The bikes not happy cruising down the road like the old non power valved bikes were it likes to speed up and slow down constantly not go one steady speed.
After a trip or two of putting up with this stuff and the fact that the bike eats tires while on the road plus it burns more gas than the car pulling it on a trailer I dont go far down the road now.

Eric, I have done what you do for years. But in Ar. there are great places to ride everywhere that you want to connect without reloading the bike. I would not mind some work the make and keep the bike set up and working for multi-use as long as it's mechanically feasable. I have seen guys do it all on KTM and KDX 2 smokes so I know it's possible. I already have 2 beadlocks on the rear and a big seat but thanks for the info. Jeff.
