GG EC250 '03 - Stuck in gear

Hey guys,

I was out for a big ride last week and after about 2 hours ride time, i lost ability to be able to change gears.. Lucky it was stuck in 2nd or 3rd and I was able to limp home..

Its really strange lever moves up and down ok but no gear change at all..

I have done a little bit of googling and there are lots of suggestions which i will go through but has anyone had any similar situations? and any suggestions?

It was only my 2nd ride on the bike so fingers crossed its not too serious..

Bike is 2003 GasGas EC 250 and I am in Australia, if it matters..

Cheers,
Nik

Hi Roosta, had same problem years ago on an 05, exactly as have described it. Problem lies with whats called the "scorpion plate" not self centreing due to a worn nylon bush, thats what my prob was anyway.

You can fix it yourself if your handy with the tools, only special tool i needed was a clutch basket holding vice grip, you'll find them on the motion pro stand at your bike shop. Scottys had all the parts i needed in stock, gaskets, waterpump seals, nylon bush etc.

Hey Rod,

Thanks for that mate.. Pretty much exactly what i found on google.. I will start pulling her down tonight..

I just need to find a decent bike shop which can get me GG parts.. :-D

Many thanks..

Cheers,
Nik

I'm in Brisbane, but i love the good advice and parts availabilty i get from Scotty's in Victoria, Norside in Mackay are good to deal with also.

The beauty of dealing with these guys is that they can pretty much tell you what parts you'll need to replace even before you tear it down due to their knowledge and experience, not that you would do it that way, cause you don't know for sure what you'll find during disassembly.

On the other hand if i went to my local GG dealer here in Brisbane, i'd need to give him the part # of every bit i needed just to be sure i got the correct part, and he wouldn't have any of them in stock either, and they would take longer to get them in than Scottys take to get parts to my door via aust post.
