Kick starter sticking

When riding this past Sunday, my kick starter kept getting stuck all the way down. I could bump it up, and it would go ahead and retract as it should. I haven't looked at it yet, but thought someone may have ran into this before. Any suggestions on what I should be looking for? The bike is an '07 EC300.

Thanks,

Josh

My IT465 had this problem and it was the spring behind the kick starter shaft was mising all its tension. So i bought a new one and no more problems.

that is probably the early stage of what seems to be a common problem on the '07 300--the starter gear strips off all the teeth. mine did it without any warning. it's no big deal to fix.

Two different problems - The kickstarter has 2 springs, one to engage the gears and a separate spring to return the lever to the upright position. It's true that some 07s had a weak engagement spring that caused the gears to slip and round off the teeth. The gears are well made and won't have to be replaced if you fix the the real problem (the engagement spring) as soon as slipping starts occurring. As for the kickstarter non return problem was the return always weak and slow or was it normal? If it was always weak then the return spring is probably installed incorrectly.

I believe I have both problems you are describing. Sometimes I can feel the starter teeth skipping when I kick it, which has occurred since the bike was new. The kick starter not returning just started. It seems like it is catching on something, because when it gets bumped up, it springs back as it should.

Sounds like I should replace both springs before I end up stripping some gears.

Thanks.

The gears for the kickstart are not "well made", my kickstart pawl stripped not long after buying a GasGas 300 new. Pull the right side cover and look at the kickstart gear (pawl). I keep a spare for when mine strips again.
Just my personal experience,
