Here?s what the fine folks at HMDR and VFTR have in store for you for
the 40th anniversary Moonshine Enduro. Our clubs have busted their
tails to make sure every aspect of this event is the very best. We
hope you all come and enjoy the hard work that we have invested. It is
our way of paying back all the great clubs and members who give us a
place to ride week in and week out.

Your day will start with greetings from our crack team of amateurs
staffing the sign up area. While completing your paperwork you will
admire the stunning 40th anniversary T Shirts and beer glasses. All
pre-entries will receive a complimentary beer glass. Don?t fret if you
forgot to pre-enter- the Tshirts and glasses will be available for
purchase. You won?t want to leave without these gems so make sure to
bring a few extra sheckles.

Now to the good part- the ride! The start crew, led by veteran enduro
ace Ed Theurkauf, will send you on your way to a 3 mile warm up
composed of a mix of trail and 2 trackers to the first start control.
Speed average is low (15mph) and we put in a couple short resets so
everyone can take their time and get good and warmed up before the
first test section.

The first two test sections are brought to you courtesy of the High
Mountain Dirt Riders. Sectron 1 is 5.2 miles of a nice mix of tight
and open woods- no real long bar banging sections, but just enough
technical to keep you on your toes. It ends with a really cool piece
weaving through a pine grove to the check out. There is a spectator
point and nice reset at the check out where you can meet your pit crew
for any adjustments or a pep talk.

You ride approximately 1.2 miles of transfer to the Start Control for
section 2. This piece of trail is a nice flowing 4.2 miles- fast open
woods with sweeping turns, a couple rocks but not many- you are pretty
much on nice dirt trail the whole way. When you check out of this
section you?ll want more.

Next you get to the first split section of the day. ASSr, B, C,
Masters, and Women riders will ride about 1.5 miles of power line and
2 tracker the first gas. AA and A riders to ASr. will frolic in 4.2
miles technical single track featuring some really cool rock crossings
and a quick jaunt down a dried up creek bed. No stoppers but just
enough challenge to keep our expert riders smiling. The check out of
this section is right at the gas stop so everyone will get a great
chance to see our elite riders at their finest.

At the gas you will be greeted by Evan Yarnall and the Solid
Performance Crew who are there for any tech support issues you have.
Flat tire? Not sure about your suspension settings? They?ll fix you
right up. The Advocare and VFTR folks will also be there with free
food and drinks. Refuel your body while you refuel your bike!

Leave the gas and ride about 4 miles to the start of the next section,
the Blue Nob Hunt Club trail. This 6.6 mile bonanza has been hailed by
many as the most fun section in the ECEA, and for good reason. Nice
flowing dirt trail capped off by a gentle crossing of the Catawissa
Creek about a mile from the end. We spent time in the section removing
the one rock garden that was put in by the evil genius Mike Hoover in
1986. This section has been groomed to perfection. If you?re not
grinning like the Cheshire Cat at the end, you either don?t like
motorcycles or dirt trail.

3 mile transfer up the mountain to the Stick Farm Start Control. 4.2
miles with a .6 mile piece of twisty heaven about 1.5 miles in. Not as
tight as it once was, it?s opened up over time, but you will be
constantly turning for that short section. After the twisty it opens
up to more flowing trail with a couple small pebbles to the check out
where former ECEA president Eric Corbin awaits your arrival.

7 miles of 2 tracker and tar road later you will arrive at gas #2.
Solid Performance, Advocare, and VFTR will be there providing the same
great service you enjoyed at gas 1.

Cruise up the mountain on tar and dirt roads to the next split
section. C, Women and Masters will enjoy the scenery on a mix of woods
roads and ATV trail for the next few miles. AA/A and all B riders will
check in to the Ridge Trail. This is my favorite trail in the world
featuring miles of technical rocky single track. No stoppers, but it
demands constant attention and finesse. A SSr. And B riders feast on
4.2 miles to a mid-section split check where they reset and join the C
riders on 2 trackers. AA/A riders to A Sr. revel in the full 7.9 miles
of glory. Awesome!

The next 5 mile transfer features a couple worthwhile sights. First
you pass the base of one of the power generating wind mills- they are
much bigger than they appear at a distance. A short jaunt later you
will see the Peddler?s Grave monument, sight of the robbery and murder
of a travelling salesman in the days of old. When you cross the power
line with a reset, say hi to our good friend and land owner, Sam
Brobst.

After a road crossing and quick ride down the old rail road bed you
will reach the Start Control to the Bunny Trail, the final timed test
of the day. 3.5 miles of roosting pleasure later you will be greeted
by none other than Hall of Famer and former ECEA president Kenny Lee
Taylor at the check out. This trail is an absolute blast to ride and
is a great way to end your day.

There is a 7 mile untimed transfer consisting of power line, woods
road and a short piece of single track to bring you back to the start
area. Enjoy the company of your fellow riders and the beverages of
your choice while we tally and post your scores. You will also get to
check out at the splendid awards that will be presented by none other
than the Irish Hammer himself- Dennis Fitzgerald. I guarantee these
awards are something you have never received before and you will be
glad you worked to earn one.

That?s about it. It is going to be one fine day of riding so I hope
many of you will come and enjoy the hard work VFTR and HMDR have put
into this event. Here is the info sheet and entry.

So glad you posted ,I am sold ! Do you need a tag ? Is there camping in the pits ? How about a bike show contest ? Cause I would win 2015 Gasgas 300 flat out beautiful !!!!!

Any way I can get a XXL T-Shirt mailed to me? Just let me know where to send the money!! I was part of VFTR in the early '90s and the Moonshine was the first enduro I entered before joining them! Strange to hear HMDR is co-hosting this event as they used to have their own event...I would strongly recommend entering the Moonshine to anyone even if they have removed one of their infamous rock gardens!

I'll get you hooked up with a shirt.
Well I'm sure it was a very different enduro then! I heard it used to be a ball buster! This is a kinder gentler Moonshine- got smooth with some age!
VFTR is still here and stronger than ever with 100 plus members.
HMDR has had a tough time putting on an enduro lately as their membership is down. I really missed their event this year and I hope that can get something together next year.

Well I pre-rode the event yesterday. All I can say is don't miss this enduro. We have a mix of everything each class will have a perfect day in the woods, just enough splits for the classes to provide a challenging day but not kick the crap out of you.
