Need help with EC 300 setup

Texas Gasser

I am a 225 lb. rider and just purchased and '04 EC 300. It had a 5.0 rear shock spring and I just replaced it with a 5.4.

Does anyone know how to set the shock preload correctly for my weight and riding conditions? I am not a racer, just ride for fun. Most of my riding is typical enduro-style riding in hilly, sandy, sometimes rocky and tight woods terrain in north Texas.

Also, any help you can give with rebound and compression settings for both the forks and rear shock will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!:D

First set race sag to 105 - 110 mm. Check your free sag, if its less than 15 -20mm you may need the 5.6 spring. Too much preload on too soft a spring makes the small stuff harsh. What fork springs are you running? If the stock .42s you should up them to maintain balance.

Thanks Glen!... by race sag, do you mean with me on the bike?... I think the fork springs were changed to .468 by the original owner... I'm trying to confirm that.

Race sag is the difference between fully unloaded (on the work stand) and you on the bike, toward the front of the seat like where you would move for a corner. Free sag is the difference between unloaded and the bike on its wheels supporting its own weight. Measure from the axel to a referance spot with the tape 90 deg to the floor.
