New plastics on old bikes?

Hi, I was wondering if I could use the new gasgas plastics for ec 125 and use it on my ec 125 2005 which has another plastic set. Does the screwholes match?

There was a big change from 06 to 07. Back in the day, Gasgas offered what they called upgrade kits. With those, you could upgrade from pre 07 models to 11 model plastics.

You need a new subframe and airbox to fit the newer (2011) plastics.
You cannot go newer than 2011. From 2012 on, the frames are different.

If you do a forum search, you may find a lot of threads on this topic.
I did such an upgrade of my 06 EC 200 around 2013, I think.

Wow okeyy. The image below is the plastics I have. Do you know if there are any plastic kits with more "meat". The newer gasgas have plastic under the saddle aswell, mine is kinda "naked"

or cant i buy new plastics and make new screw holes? And then just cover the old ones.
If theres one screw that I cant screw in due to frame, it doesnt matter. As long like 2/3 are in, its fine tbh

The new bikes are drastically different with different shapes and different screw hole locations. You should be able to find some new Polisport plastic that will fit your bike but I think they only have red and white.

Do you need all of the plastic or just some pieces?

There are several nice older GG plastic parts on ebay. The 125,200, 250 and 300 body panels directly swap between the older bikes.

Im interested in the new plastics as they are more meaty under the saddle. It will be prettier with decals. Can I not make own screwholes and cover the old ones? Otherwise yeah there are old plastics to buy aswell

How new (what model year) do you mean by new?
There are four distinct types:
  • up to 06 (your bike)
  • 07-11
  • 12-17
  • 18-20

I would say the only ones you can use are the first two types (up to 11). Going newer than that, nothing will fit up. You may be able to drill new holes, but everything else is different (frame, tank, subframe and seat)

And I forgot to mention regarding the upgrade from 05 to 11 that in addition to the subframe, you'll also have to replace the seat.

Oh. I was thinking 2022 MC plastics. Like drilling new holes in the plastic, possibly one or two in the subframe. I dont need all screws, 2 or 3 with possibe zipties will do the trick.

You could of course give it a try, but those bikes are so different that I doubt it would be an easy task.

You can buy the kit and see if it fits before you start drilling. You will know right away if it will work or not. If not, you should be able to return them or sell them.
Please post photos either way.
