no power to speedo on 07 450

does anyone know if there is a fuse somewhere? factory acewell speedo on my 07 fsr450 has been not working sometimes. I wiggled the wires when it stopped working and it started again but cut back out almost immediatly. found insulation on the wires for the speedo broken and bare spots. fixxed this and bench tested, works perfect. now no power getting to the pin in the bike harness for the speedo. my clock power is still there but no keyed power. Im thinking it blew a fuse with the wires touching. I found 3 fuses, a 15a under the headlight bucket, and 2 30a fuses in the airbox. but all these appear to be good.

I'd say you will have to find were there power lead starts and just keep testing along the line until you find where the power stops. It will lead you to the fuse or broken wire.

Not sure if the 07 is the same as the 06, but mine suffered the same insulation breakdown and then shorted out the supply.
The speedo on mine works off DC voltage and the generator is making AC, so just behind the headlight is a capacitor and a diode, which half wave rectifies to provide DC.

More on AC/DC can be found here

:p lol, no wonder this bike is awesome, its got ac/dc in it?... so this rectifier, would it be a little black thing, about an inch square, mounted with a rubber clip? how would I test it? how many volts ac should I look for going into it? and I assume 12-15vdc coming out?

The on I had on mine was all included in a short piece of the loom wrapped up in the loom itself, so in theory should be able to buy a new piece. Being a cheap skate I but a capacitor and a diode in there, can't remember how it was wired, but just copied the old setup. On mine the wires had touched together and the capacitor had blown.

The AC/DC thing probably explains why my gas gas rocks!!

Sorry for reviving an old thread, but does the acewell speedo have any sort of backup battery? I took it of the bike, but it is sealed with no sign of battery compartment. On mine FSR it is powered directly from the ignition switch and loses date/time, avg/min/max when the bike is switched off.
