Noob in the UK (help needed)

Hi All,

Just got myself a 2001 EC250, first dirt bike in many years so looking forward to getting out on it. The bike is in a mess so I got it cheap, I love tinkering so suits me fine :-)

I have had a good look around the web and searched this forum but cannot find a .pdf manual for my bike or a wiring diagram with all functions, I found the basic wiring but not with the indicators etc, can anyone help me out?

I also need to find one of the white plastic rad deflectors that goes in front of the right rad, and also a pair of aluminium rad protectors, I assume ones from any year will fit? I also have to find a speedometer but trying to avoid the cost of something like a Vapor unit, any suggestions?

If there is anything you can do to help a noob I would be really grateful

Paul

Ring gas gas uk, very helpful and stock a huge amount of parts. http://www.gasgasuk.com/

Not sure why you are bothering with indicators as you dont need them in the uk to be road legal and will just smash them off the first time you hit the deck on the byways, waste of time and money!

Headlight with hi/low, and rear light/brake light is all you need.

+1 don't bother with indicators. Electric looms on enduro bikes get tired from the nature of use. The lighting is decorative more than useful. If you like making looms, Matt R did a good how to here A tail and brake light is fairly obvious extension of this set up. AES are in the UK and do japanese bullet connectors et c. Personally, I would make a separate ignition and lighting looms, so that it is easy to check on the condition of the ignition.

pdf manuals here

Electronic speedos don't last long on enduro bikes because of the tiny wires getting broken. I have succesfully got standard acewell gas gas speedos working again by going through the wiring, but they only last so long. More and more people use gps set ups for green laning. I understand it is possible to get a speed read out on bar mounted gps displays.

Thanks for all your replies, great support. I agree with the indicators, I was just looking for the diagram to make sense of all the wires in the loom but I'm there now by buzzing them all out with the multi meter.

I had a word with my local MOT centre today, how bonkers is this, you need a speedo to be legal on the road but it isn't an MOT requirement - hilarious :)

Still no luck with the manual, many of them are listed on the Gas Gas website but not for the 2001 EC250. Has anyone got a copy they could email me or dropbox? I could PM you my email address if you have one.

Thanks again

basically they are mostly all the same I use a 2003 for my 98 model,

if thats the case with the speedo then just buy one for a mountain bike

You dont actually have to have a speedo to be legal but its illegal to speed so without a speedo you dont know how fast your going so will probably be speeding!! crazy rules.

I'm in the same boat as you.
I bought a 2002 ec300 to do up as a project.
Engine is in good order just looks scruffy.

There is a partslist manual on the gasgas website for a 2000 model which I think is the right model for you. As far as I'm aware model ran from 2000-2002 and then 2003 on.
So some parts may be different.

Come on. We cant have all this talk of new bikes with no pictures!

Im another uk boy here this is my 2006 250 last night

Cheers stuflo, good luck with the project. My friend brought his WR450 round for me to do some work on so that has absorbed my time, back to the GasGas soon :D

Wow, that's stunning!
Mine is still in bits at the moment but it will breathe fire very soon (well smoke anyway..). I'll post some photos when it's done.
