A new GG aluminum drain plug with magnet is very inexpensive. I replaced mine one time and it was like $6. The aftermarket sells these for japanese bikes for $20. Sometimes our OE parts are very reasonable!
Like GMP mentioned, just snug it up but don't over-tighten it. The oring seals very well. Also, I like to put a little anti-seize on both the drain plug and filler plug threads. This helps minimize the risk of galling/sticking between the aluminum parts.

I know the plug from a Kawasaki KLR650 fits, because I replaced the giant bugger on my KLR with a GasGas one 
Trick is to keep dirt out of the allen hole or remove it before using the wrench. It's deep enough that you shouldn't strip it out unless your using an impact gun to tighten.

It's aluminum for a reason. Overtighten a steel drain plug and you'll be rethreading the threads in your aluminum case. Antiseize and a gentle hand on the torque levels are good advice.
Regarding the antiseize, my friend had a hard time removing his head bolts from his '03 300EC. Good idea to antiseize these as well, especially with the pre-'04 motors with allen head bolts. I'm a big antiseize proponent.
