output shaft oil seal size

can anyone confirm the correct size of oil seal for the countershaft?

I bought a 30mm x 40mm x 7mm as this is what the GG manual said and it's leaking oil.

Ive only just finished the complete engine rebuild, and lets say it was a bit of a pisser watching the oil drip out of the new seal.

I take it i can just lay the bike over and put in a new one, or is it a case of draining the oil and starting again.

Did you replace the o-rings and bushing as well? I've read that without doing those as well, replacing the seal is often a waste of time.
 
erm..nope well i guess thats why then, has anyone got a picture of these parts

Yep replace all three parts (oil seal,spacer, 2 o-rings) or it will leak.

No pic but it is on the fich.

Yes you can lay the bike on its side with out draining the oil.

Halls has always had it in stock for me.

Well got some great news for riders of older GG engines like me.
we dont need the plastic bushing and 'o' rings just a 25 x 40 x 7 oil seal.

What "plastic bushing" All the counter shafts are "sealed " with a "metal bushing" with a grove in one end for one of the O-rings, the other O-ring smashes against the side case to seal it. If you just put a oil seal in it will leak.

Ok sorry i got it wrong "metal bushing" with the O rings

Err no the older GG engine does not need that "bushing" as per andy @ GGUK they changed it later. he was 110% certain I didnt need it
 
On the older bikes I polish bushing's seal contact area to smooth out the ridges. If they are significant grooves I will not drive in the new seal as deep (hold the seal out slightly) to give it a new shaft wear surface. This works well for crank seals too.
