Pipe for 07 EC250

Well, after a couple years of abuse my pipe is slowly getting pushed up into the radiator - new pipe time. Right now I have the stock GasGas pipe and am pretty happy with it - except for replacement price. $400 for a pipe is a little steep. I hear the new FMF Gnarly for 07-current 250/300s (P/N 025095) actually works in the mid range and top end. Is this true? I'm happy with the power characteristics from the GasGas pipe but hate to fork out $400 for a pipe that will probably get trashed. If the new FMF doesn't flatten out up top I'd buy it.

Speedy, I had an Oem 06 pipe on my 02 that is very similar to the new FMF pipe. I assume your 07 OEm pipe is nearly the same as the 06. My 07 came with the new FMF and it feels very similar to the OEM 06. I also like the SPES pipe that I have on the buike now however it is not nearly as robust as the FMF. The new FMF is decidedly different from the old FMF in a good way.

Thanks PEB. The stock 07 GasGas pipe is like a Messico but with thicker walls. Good pipe, but $400 is too much for a pipe.

Steve,

FWIW, the '07 GG pipe is the same as the '05 GG pipe. I have a new spare that was taken from an '05 and have verified this. The subframe change on the '07 only required the silencer to be different.

It would be interesting to see how the various pipes fit in the Hyde combo that was designed/molded for the GG OEM pipe.

It fits the Oem 06, the new FMF, and the Spes just fine. The FMF and the Oem must be very close in shape because it fits them nearly the same

Gas Gas used the same pipe from 2003-2007 (confirmed from Spain). Pipe was re-designed a bit in 08 to improve ground clearance but some reports of front tire contact on full compresion.

The new FMF pipe is supposed to be a copy of I believe the Messico but in Gnarly mode thickness. I would go this route for your new pipe and look for someone parting out an older bike with a good pipe for a spare. I picked up an almost perfect condition one this way for totally reasonable money.

Might be worth sending your crushed pipe to Pacific Crest Pipe Repair in Washington to get fixed?

If you send the pipe, make sure you ask if they can move the header pipe forward to the original location.

When I sent my pipe to Pacific Crest they did a great job taking out the dents, but the header was still pushed back to the radiator hose.

I'm not sure if I'll repair this one. There's no dents in it and it's not pushed back at all, it's just pushed up. Not sure if I'll run a Hyde combo anymore, I'm thinking about getting a cage built for the new pipe since I'm racing some endurocross this year.

Steve, I had very good results "lowering" my pushed-up pipe using the bumper-jack of my truck  I simply used a loop of rope to secure the body of the pipe under the foot of the jack, and then used another loop of rope around the pipe neck and the jack head. I then simply racheted the jack until the ropes pulled the pipe neck into relative position. Remember to wear your safety goggles. ;)
