Piston siezed today. Advice needed

Hi guys,

I have a 1998 EC250. Whilst out today the bike locked up and the piston has siezed. I need to get a new one but no shop is listing a piston for the year. All seem to start at 03+. Couple of questions....

Have read on here a CR250 piston fits. But doesnt say from what year?
If I do get a gasgas one, are they the same from 97 onwards up until present.

Obviously, money wise I would like to favour the CR250 as its about half the price, but need to know the exact year.

Wiseco part number seems to be the same from 97 on but other manufacturers differ.

Any advice on the matter much appreciated

I put the honda cr250 pston in my 03 gasgas last year when it needed replated, 86 to 96 cr pistons are all the same and the one you want.
I have the prox one in mine not the wiseco, nothing wrong with the wiseco I just wanted a cast piston.
The honda piston is .01 of a mm bigger if your replating its a non issue but if not check the clearances it could be too tight.
The piston looks a tiny bit different, theres a small cut out at the bottom of the intake skirt, it doesnt seam to make any differece tho.
If your going with a gasgas piston the one for the newer bikes are the same.

Check ebay, specifically north tahoe motorsports. He has wossner pistons, rings, bearing, pins and an assortment of base gaskets in a kit.
