really need help with my electrical

I have 99 ec250, about 3 months ago my bike lost its fire. I have tested the power coming from stator and it looks good. I just bought a new cdi and a new coil. I still have no spark. I am completly confused. could it be the pickup senser from the side of the stator? And to add to it, it ran just after i put te parts on and then i killed it with the switch. I then went to go ride the next day and noting again. Somebody pplease help.

Here are the places I would start with...

Check for loose connections, cut wires and shorts. A multi-meter can be very helpful.

Disconnect the kill switch and check. Sometimes they get a short.

Try a new spark plug. They may look good and have enough resistance not to run.

The stator tends to be the weakest link in the electrical system. The pulse coil may very well be the problem. There is a an old suzuki pulse coil that works, but I don't remember whick year and size RM it comes from. I will try to find out today.

update

I put on a new plug, checked all the connections, and pulled off and checked the kill switch. Still nothing! I am hoping it is the pulse coil because it's all that's left. I am getting power to the cdi but on my meter nothing is coming out. Could that be caused by the pulse coil not working?

Check for a broken wire behind the left radiator.
The harness can chafe on the radiator tank, causing the open circuit or short to ground.

My '98 250 had that problem.

pulse coil

Ok I am not getting anything from the pulse coil wires. There should be a low level charge correct? I called and cannot get a pulse coil by itself so does anyone know of a substitue?

Is this similar on an 06 FSE450? I am experiencing the same issues.
Thanks

Your meter should be on Hz, with the leads hooked to the pulse coil wires, you should get a voltage spike every time the raised block passes the pulse coil.
If you are getting a spike, then it's not the pulse coil.

My '04 EC300 did the same thing. It was caused by a dead pulse coil, which as you know GasGas doesn't list seperate from the rest of the stator. The pulse coil showed a totally open circuit when tested across the 2 leads, shoud have had a fairly low resistance, but I don't remember what that spec was off hand. Jack Bondus at Road Track and Trail gave me the resistance spec for the coil and tracked down the correct Suzuki part, which fixed the problem quite cheaply (seems like it was only $15 - $20). Mike Baxter (loosenut) knew this, and called asking if I had the part number to reply to this thread. I KNOW I saved the box to have the part number available, but I've looked all over my garage and can't find it (no smart ass comments, Baxter). Therefore, I'm going to recommend you give Jack a call and see if HE remembers.
Of course, having posted this I'll probably find the box tonight. If so, I'll post it (although having posted THAT may just keep the damn thing hidden).

pulser coil stator coil

Pulser coil gap 0.75 mm red-green 100 ohms red meter to green cable-black meter to red cable -Remove spark plug kick hard 5 times should read 5 volts.+ -1 volt. Stator,Exciter coil red meter to black/red cable - black meter to red/white cable 27.0 ohms kick start 5 times 18 volts ac . Do not buy a Moose Stator replacement it will not put out enough voltage. 93-97 rm 125-250 1986 cr 500 some ktm will work and fit ,only if they put out the same voltage . I tried two moose stators it would start the bike cold but never hot and with lower performance

Thanks Tim! I also called and spoke with Jim and he had another idea. He said to call Ricky Stator and ask them. I was not too impressed when they failed to repair my old 300's stator.

same problem

I am currently having the exact same problem with a 1999 200ec
Bike was running fine and after I shut it off it wouldnt restart,no spark
replaced cdi and it ran until I shut it off with the kill switch and now no spark. again???

I dont know if your 250 has the same ignition as my 200 (i think they are the same) I ordered a stator assembly from an rm that looked similar but it didnt fit? was told it works in the newer bikes though.

I will keep working on it and will reply again if I find a solution. Please let me know if you figure it out.

I want to try a pulse coil if I can find one

Could it be a problem with the kill switch? Could it be a bad switch causing a ground, therefore no spark. Two CDIs with the same kill switch would have me check the kill switch.

Just a thought.

electrical

OK, I have a stator from an rm, new gasgas cdi, new gasgas coil and still nothing. I hve checked my kill switch and as far as i can tell there is not a short( checked it with ohm meter). I think it is getting good power after the cdi but it barley registers anything after the coil. I even checked it with a good running bikes coil and it metered the same. I have checked all wires and checked for grounds everywhere. I am about to pull my hair out. I also had it running just after the new cdi was installed and then now i have nothing again. Is there anything that is so obvious to evryone else that I am missing or should i shove it off of a cliff.

prolly the stator

I had several people tell me that they all believe that it is a bad stator. I have an original gas gas stator coming so maybe I can let you know if it works within the week. I did find out as far as the pulse coil is concerned, a pulse coil from a 2001 rm 250 works.

It finally runs

I got another stator and my bike fired right up. I'm still not sure why the other one would run then quit but i also don't have a profesional volt meter so it may have just got too weak. Thank everyone for all the suggestions and help.
