Recommended method for cleaning cylinder and PV

Head and cylinder are off and calling it a night. PV has not been disassembled. Wondering outside of gasket removal what is required/recommended for cleaning head/cylinder/PV. Cylinder interior looks good, no marks or real buildup and crosshatch clearly still visible, would like to get it good and clean (as much exterior as interior with caked on spooge). What is the best way to do this? See some use scotchbrite pads. What is used as a cleaner? Have not disassembled the PV yet (looks clean). Seems the bearings normally stay in from what I am looking at, can i clean this under running soapy water??? Do I use carb cleaner or citrus based to clean these instead? Dont want to rust or destroy bearings. Some guidance from the experienced would be great! (ie do all the PV mechanisms easily just come out?)

Is there any reason why soaking the cylinder / PV in parts cleaning solution would be a bad idea in lieu of disassembly? May be a dumb question but since there is no visible accumulation on the powervalve in situ, wondering if there is a problem with soaking and brushing as is?

The disassembly thread above is very easy to follow. Yank those components out of there and give them a good thorough cleaning. Getting all the carbonization off the components will make your Pv work much better.:D
