Replacement Oil Drain Plug

I am doing the first oil change on my new (to me) 11 300ec and the hex head drain plug was nearly rounded out. When removing that plug, no gasket came out with the plug. There is a copper gasket pressed up into the case that does not appear to want to come out (easily).

The replacement plug I purchased from Matto came with a steel washer/gasket.

Wondering if anyone else has purchased this plug; is the steel ring a throw-away (assuming the copper washer in the bottom of the case looks good)?

Thanks.

Compare the working surface of both drain plugs, if they match there is no harm in using the copper washer. Inspect the copper washer closely; they do crush a bit. Thickness is not critical but you need a smooth sealing surface.

Thanks Neil.
On our other bikes, the copper washer always sealed between the bottom of the case and the plug (ie-it comes off when removing the plug). It was different that this one is pressed up into the case, so I wasn't sure if the washer/gasket that came with the Matto replacement plug was supposed to be used in addition to the copper one.

Good idea though-I do need to check, if the diameter of the flange of the new plug seats properly on the existing copper washer, hard to see a need for the steel one provided.
